Why don’t we castrate rapists?

Why don’t we allow the victim the option to kick the perp in the groin area until he is in agony and then cut it off? Or lock him up and give him female hormones to tone down aggression? I have never been raped, but almost was and was able to get away and frequently think about that night (also in a trail) and still want revenge. It would bring me great satisfaction to hurt this person and watch him suffer and then have his castrated.

Are you sure? Or will it draw you into the cycle of violence, and not eliminate the harm already caused?

To me the answer is life in prison, no parole.

Well, then they go into prison and rape other inmates. Also, our wonderful court ruled that death penalty was cruel and unusual for conviction of rape "against women" and rape "of a child"

I'd love if rapists and pedophiles spent in life in prison, but they rarely do. I worked in a treatment program that "helped" men who had sexual fantasies of children (some as young at 3 years olds) and they are just wired that way. It doesn't change.

Kill them. Period.

You didn’t address PP’s point of convicting the wrong person. Perhaps you’re fine with castrating or murdering an innocent man; most people aren’t.

Ridiculous statement. Do you volunteer with the innocence project on death penalty cases? I'm sure you are aware there are years and years of appeals and information prior to execution. Innocence Project does a great work to our criminal justice system.

It shows that you have very little knowledge or education of our our court systems work - or how punishment work. Look, I am as liberal as they come. But once you work with these monsters you know there is no fixing them.

And believe it or not, most people don't care about murdering of innocent people or we wouldn't have school shootings every 2 days in this country.

Was this supposed to be a coherent response?

“Do YOU work with the Innocence Project” and “But school shootings!” are not an actual response to the earlier PP’s concern about convicting the wrong person.

"We" do.

Critics also question the effectiveness of surgical or chemical castration on sex offenders. Those subjected to castration may retain some sexual function. Even surgically castrated offenders have a small rate of recidivism. Furthermore, testosterone-boosting drugs are available that can counteract the effects of castration.

That's interesting to mme. I knew that there was still recidivism after chemical castration but not surgical.

That’s not cruel and unusual to me. Seems entirely appropriate.

Luckily “to me” is irrelevant under the law.

Yes it is. Cruel and unusual are defined by cultural standards which are the aggregates of all the “to me”s. PP don’t think castration is a cruel and unusual punishment for rape. You do. I don’t think it’s cruel and unusual but I also don’t think it’s appropriate for the same reasons I think the death penalty is inappropriate. (I can’t morally tolerate the possibility of mistakes in either case.)

Ok, so life in prison for an innocent person is better? I don't understand your issue. Either way, an innocent person is convicted of a crime. And, before you say life in prison is better than death - I assume you've never been inside or worked inside a prison.

Last, our country is based on a trial by jury of their peers. If you don't want punishment for the guilty on the off chance that one of the guilty is actually innocent the whole system breaks down. Now please, go back to your kids soccer game and let those of us who do this every day work on these issues.

While I disagree with you - I can respect where you're coming from.

Wow - did you really say that to a victim?

Sorry, OP the crazy people are out today.

Maybe for the same reason we don't stone to death women who commit infidelity.

Maybe for the same reason the death penalty is not permitted in most jurisdictions.

There is always more to the story and mistakes are made.

Um…hang on here. Could you expound on this point please?

Are you saying it would be better for an innocent person to be executed than spend life in prison?

Not interested in muddying the waters here with other crimes. Not cutting off people's hands and stoning people for adultery or caning them in the town square for whatever.

Specifically using a penis in a violent assualt on a person, proven with DNA, I have no problem taking the penis away.

And if a woman uses her reproductive organs to commit a violent assault on a person, sure. Violent. Good luck finding a case of that.

And a hysterectomy with vaginal obliteration would be a huge surgery. And I think you can't just get rid of the vagina due to menstruation. Maybe we lock those women up forever because a snip snip is not going to be adequate.

What about violent assault with hands? Sticking to the subject, say someone violates another person with their hands/fingers. Do they lose the hands/fingers in question? Or are penises special?

Because it doesn’t work, unfortunately.

Yes. Penises are special. Ask a woman who has been raped.

Ask women who have been digitally penetrated vs. forced intercourse.

ESPECIALLY now that we are losing the right to abort rapist's babies. Force a woman to accept your sperm, lose your d*ck.

Do you think we should chop off hands for stealing? Behead someone for murder?

If you are opposed to DNA proven rapists being castrated, please state your gender.
