Will Fenty win the DC mayoral primary against Gray?

Anonymous
You still can't come up with a single discrete example!

There is no metro in my neighborhood. My street is never plowed. Assumptions, assumptions. Who'd you say was the ass? It's you -- if for only the reason that you're spending so much time typing inaninities to me. You know nothing of which you speak.

And that pissing-down theory you're touting? You do realize how much you sound like Reagan, don't you? Oh, wait, it's you. On which all is lost. My bad. I expected too much from you. I even thought you knew that Fenty is actually more Black than Gray is. Again, my bad. Won't happen again.

Because Fenty is losing now (by as much as 70-30), he's going to win in September.

WHAT?!?!?!

That's like saying, "Hey guys, we're down by 50 in the first quarter. We've got them RIGHT where we want them."

Either you're too young to be using the internet, or your memory is very short. Hillary had more than 50% early on; Obama had only 15% before the first primary. And Dukakis led Bush by over 30% before the Republicans had their convention.

The game's barely begun.

You are remember exceptions for precisely that reason.. they are exceptions!

Bill Clinton dominated Dole in the polls throughout.

I'm not saying Fenty can't overcome an early deficit. But the idea that Fenty is in a GOOD place because he's losing is, quite honestly, one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. An early deficit is not a cause to celebrate. It's also not a reason to throw in the tower. But current polls indicate Gray will win. Does that mean it's a done deal? Far from it. But the odds are in his favor, at least right now.

At this point, I'm going to be the bigger person and just walk away. Keep trying to maintain your privilege as it slowly, and thankfully, slips away. When the tables are turned, just hope those in power don't embody the same spirit that you do. Peace out.

Bill Clinton was one of the most popular incumbents in the history of the United States presidencies. Try again. If you must. And do remember that Bill Clinton was once well-known as the "come-back kid". You just can't stop yourself from adding credibility to my arguments, can you?

If you only had a clue as to whom you are speaking, you would apologize to me. So I will accept it. Keep pondering on an example, counting my metros, my parks and my "greenery".

Just please, please keep your promise to be the one who walks away. And take that stench of ignorance with you.

Thank you very much for that second sentence, above. It beautifully captures Vincent Gray's position on a central issue, as well as those of his supporters. I think many voters will find this helpful in making decisions as to whom they should vote.

No

Not the PP you put this question to, but here are some recent examples of early leaders who were not trumped in the end:

Reagan vs. Carter
Reagan vs Mondale
Clinton vs Dole
Clinton vs Bush I
Bush II vs McCain
Williams vs Schwartz"
Fenty vs Cropp
and so on and so on

Carter had the lead over Reagan until the end of the campaign.

You're really going to use Reagan v. Mondale as an example??? Really? He was only THE MOST IMCUMBENT PRESIDENT EVER, but I'll toss you a bone there.

Aleady addressed Clinton v. Dole. The SEOND MOST POPULAR INCUMBENT PRESIDENT EVER. Another bone.

Bush I had a lead over Clinton for quite some time.

Mcain came within a whisker from taking the whole thing fro
Bush II -- what are you talking about???

Can't comment on Williams v. Schwartz so I'll give it to you.

I believe Cropp had a small lead over Fenty for awhile, too.

Point is it's early. And many, many times in political history, we see lots of candidates lose their advantage. Early polls are very soft.

To wit: After people have a chance to recognize Gray's principles, as outlined by the poster above who appears to be connected to his campaign, they will become disillusioned with him quickly. Right now people are liking anyone who is not Fenty. It won't last.

Actually, I think FDR was the most incumbent president ever.

Yes, well, this is the stuff of which would make for a good thesis if one wanted to pursue a Master's or Doctorate in Political Science (and I do love the study of campaigns), but it's a bit more than I think we have time for right now. Although our Prolific Political Poster could not come up with a single example, someone else has managed to make it clear that there are instances in which it goes both ways. Probably depends on a lot of factors. Really interesting stuff. I hold a degree in government and have thought of pursuing it further. But again, it's not really what we came here to discuss in depth.

What residents of Wards 1, 2, 3 & 4 really need to focus on is the kind of governance they can look forward if Gray should happen to win this thing, as articulated by one of his spokesmen:

You are not entitled to better schools than others in your municipality, or higher property values, or a new park, no matter how much you pay in taxes.

Gray is . . . saying that there is enough going into supporting the residents of those areas and is making sure that attention is also being paid to other wards. [You] are bitter that Gray won't give it to you.

Think you work a hard day for your pay? Think again, for you are:

Being bitter and imagining yourself a victim after being a long-term beneficiary of unearned privilege

Think that you earned your achievements in your own right, and through hard work? Wrong:

you are feeling threatened because someone is telling you maybe, JUST MAYBE, you are not going to get everything served to you on a silver platter. And you are really, REALLY scared about it. It's okay. Having to rely on your self for a bit isn't the worst thing in the world. If anything, it builds character. I get you haven't ever really had to do that and the thought terrifies you, partly because you know you probably won't be able to maintain your high level of "achievement" without standing on the backs and necks of others, but it's cool. You'll live. Take a deep breath, be thankful for all that has been bestowed upon you.

Disagree with any of this?

Get your head out of your ass and see the light.

Have a problem with this vision of governance?

Wamp wamp. Barf. Tough.

So really, people, if this is what you want, go vote for Vincent Gray. You'll get exactly what you deserve, and then some. And you heard it from one of his own people, right here.

This is meant not just for the poster of the above snippet, but for everyone on both sides:
Don't confuse the statements of supporters with those of the politician. If Fenty and Gray had to depend on you to get their messages out, Leo Alexander would be a shoo-in!

I just drove through Cleveland Park and was surprised at the number of Gray signs.

Really? Do you live in Anacostia?
