I’m well aware of its limitations. Nonetheless, it’s widely used, and you haven’t explained to me why that should stop. Spamming me a link isn’t the same as providing your own explanation. |
| It’s also kind of funny that the article you posted doesn’t really question usage of the CPI in general. It instead proposes some revisions of it. |
Can you just take this to the Biden's economy thread? This is about Kamala Harris. Not how CPI is calculated or used. |
| I agree that she is pretty milquetoast but certainly not worthy of the hate she is receiving. Compared to HRC, who is much more accomplished and outspoken, she receives less hate. So maybe it is proportional to the degree of outspokenness, when combined with the second X chromosome. Folks are complaining about how her speeches are disorganized. How bout Biden or W? If she didn't make any mistakes, she would be unlikeable like Hillary. Since she makes mistakes, she is incompetent. I think Kamala made it through to the top because she was from the most liberal area of the country and she is media friendly. It is nearly impossible for women to break through, and that is what it took for her. This is a problem with our society. |
Biden is a moderate and he's been a moderate for long enough that you sound ridiculous painting his as a socialist, but right wing media needs a boogie man in the executive, so they choose Kamila. She's probably even more conservative than Biden (one of the reasons she got no traction in the primaries), but she's a brown woman, so she'll do |
| I don't hate her, but I don't hate drywall either. |
Maybe. But c’mon even Obama showed signs of being embarrassed by him. There were a couple times Obama would subtlety shake his head silently eadi g Joe not say something embarrassing. Plus all the comments about Biden making people uncomfortable like an old Uncle Joe (eg, touching, comments). now that he's president, we have amnesia? |
| Racism + sexism + unconscious/conscious bias. |
| VPs are generally ignored except for when they can be the brunt of a joke or criticized. Or when the president tried to have them killed in an insurrection, I guess. Sadly, since she’s female and a woman of color, many people also have higher standards for her. Mostly sexism and racism, OP. |
I don't know what to tell you. Biden was well liked as VP. |
Probably that - plus there's just something sort of odd and inauthentic about her! |
Agree. VPs take a lot of flak. It is part of the job. Dan Quayle is probably a good example of getting a lot of dislike. |
That’s why Obama rushed to endorse him as a presidential candidate.
|
I think they hate her because 1) everyone emotionally wants a backstop for Biden because he's obviously barely competent - but instead of being a backstop she is arguably worse (can't put a sentence together or find people who want to work for her) 2) because she was brought on the ticket as a token, not because of her own abilities or accomplishments, her failures in #1 are doubly frustrating - voters feel both patronized and let down at the same time |
Sure, yeah - wink away. He was well liked as VP! Also part of why he was picked was because he wasn't going to run for president, and there was a space of time between when he was VP and when he next ran for president. Obama had his reasons for not endorsing - I don't think one of them was that Biden wasn't well liked as VP. He just was! He was Uncle Joe. Maybe you weren't in the US during those 8 years and you missed it. I was a reporter during that period and remember it well. |
