Why do people hate Kamala?

I think they hate her because

1) everyone emotionally wants a backstop for Biden because he's obviously barely competent - but instead of being a backstop she is arguably worse (can't put a sentence together or find people who want to work for her)

2) because she was brought on the ticket as a token, not because of her own abilities or accomplishments, her failures in #1 are doubly frustrating - voters feel both patronized and let down at the same time

Ding ding ding. That's exactly how I feel as a moderate Dem.

Maybe. But c’mon even Obama showed signs of being embarrassed by him. There were a couple times Obama would subtlety shake his head silently eadi g Joe not say something embarrassing. Plus all the comments about Biden making people uncomfortable like an old Uncle Joe (eg, touching, comments). now that he's president, we have amnesia?

I don't know what to tell you. Biden was well liked as VP.

That’s why Obama rushed to endorse him as a presidential candidate.

Sure, yeah - wink away. He was well liked as VP! Also part of why he was picked was because he wasn't going to run for president, and there was a space of time between when he was VP and when he next ran for president. Obama had his reasons for not endorsing - I don't think one of them was that Biden wasn't well liked as VP.

He just was! He was Uncle Joe. Maybe you weren't in the US during those 8 years and you missed it. I was a reporter during that period and remember it well.

Heh no, I don't work as a journalist anymore - and this would be a really boring article.

I just think she doesn’t sound very smart. Instead there seem to be a lot of expressive looks and angst in her voice. It gives the impression she is in over her head.

Right, right... all of her staffers who resigned must just be racists and misogynists. Couldn't possibly be any other reason like, say, she's a complete dolt who is notoriously hard to work for.

And this kind of person is expected to be completely perfect every second of every day while others can fumble their way through.

I don't expect perfection, but I do expect competence.

And, we have not seen that. Her speeches are largely word salads delivered in a way in which a first grade teacher would talk to her students.
She has been absent in terms of her role as border czar.
The few interviews she has granted have resulted in a string of embarrassing sound bites.
I don't hate her, but I don't believe she has represented her office well.

+100
Exactly. She embarrasses herself and the office of VP every time she opens her mouth.

Giving women a pass just because of their gender is ridiculous. And I say this as a woman.

Thank you. So sick of this "women are off-limits" crap. And I'm also a woman.

When her time is over she will fade away into the history books.

It's kind of sad our first woman as VP is just so forgettable.

Agree. And let's not forget the incredible mockery Dan Quayle received as VP. He is a white man. I guess it's perfectly acceptable (encouraged, even!) to criticize white men, but don't you dare do the same to a WOC. Ridiculous people.

Anonymous wrote:I don’t even LIKE her, she’s just a completely generic politician, to my mind. She elicits completely neutral feelings from me. Slightly positive since she’s the first woman of color VP to the extent that identity politics matters to me which is very little. But I don’t love her or hate her more than any other generic politician or the way she conducts her duties as vice president, which is basically nothing. Maybe people just hate “generic politicians” but I don’t think she’s any worse than other generic politicians, which is most of them. So why is she so particularly loathed?

I don’t know, but I feel about her the same way you do. She’s fine, she’s pretty average for a politician.

A lot of the hatred I see spewed at her is clearly based in misogyny as evidenced by what the worst people say about her, the same way that the hatred that right wingers spew at Buttigieg is based largely in homophobia as evidenced again by what the loudest mouths say.

Actually now that I remember the connection with Buttigieg, I also remember that the loudest voices of homophobia are those that end up having the greatest response to gay porn, i.e., they’re hating something in themselves. Same thing with Harris. They hate/fear something about her that they hate/fear about themselves (even if that’s not a conscious response). It still sucks.

Wow. This is such a word salad of sheer nonsense it could actually have been written by Kamala Harris!

DP. Your selective rose colored glasses are precious. I remember Uncle Joe being mocked for all the reasons the PP listed and more.
