Why do people hate Kamala?

Anonymous
I don’t even LIKE her, she’s just a completely generic politician, to my mind. She elicits completely neutral feelings from me. Slightly positive since she’s the first woman of color VP to the extent that identity politics matters to me which is very little. But I don’t love her or hate her more than any other generic politician or the way she conducts her duties as vice president, which is basically nothing. Maybe people just hate “generic politicians” but I don’t think she’s any worse than other generic politicians, which is most of them. So why is she so particularly loathed?

She is a woman and person of color who does not believe the lies of the right.

I don't hate her, but I definitely don't think she is fit for the job.

I used to not like her because she was "snarky." (ex. Kavanaugh hearings; debate with Joe Biden), but now I think she must have been very well coached by her staffers then.

I do not understand why she cannot give better speeches. Last week, she gave a speech where she said that Biden is putting more money in people's pockets with electricity and gas going down.
I understand that she is not stopping to put gas in her vehicle or buying groceries--but does she not read? watch news?
Everything is going up in price. Clueless.

The inflation rate has been on the decline for awhile now. Read the news.

Because our society hates smart, ambitious women who don’t support misogyny or misogynistic policies. See also HRC, Elizabeth Warren, AOC, Gov Whitmer… the list is long.

Moderate Dem here. She hasn't distinguished herself in any way. She's fine. Not very charismatic or inspiring. She also didn't do much in her time in the Senate or have any particular initiatives as VP (admittedly, it's hard to because it's really at the discretion of the President and often results in turf wars with Departmental Secretaries). However, where she has managed things, it hasn't been good. Her Presidential campaign was a flop. Managing the VP Office has led to lots of backbiting and resignations. Other than breaking a few barriers on the basis of her identity (which is a good thing, but frankly, I think there were better and more qualified candidates), there's not much else there. She's just kind of "meh" -- a milquetoast establishment Democrat. Also, I have no idea what she actually believes or causes that she really supports, aside from being front and center at whatever is the focus of POC issues of the day. There's a saying - Democrats fall in love, Republicans fall in line. I think that's apt with her. She isn't loved by many of her own party. Would I vote for her? Sure. Beats the alternative R any day. However, I think there are many better qualified candidates out there. I also don't have a lot of confidence in her if Biden doesn't finish his first (or hopefully second) term.

Please. Don't try to gaslight us.

While price hikes for gas, furniture, electronics and clothes are slowing down after a long stretch of sharp gains, one costly item isn't expected to get cheaper anytime soon: electricity.

Economists say consumers should expect their electric bills to continue rising at a fast pace as liquified natural gas, a key fuel for generating electricity, remains in short supply in the U.S. and companies' operating costs rise. Average U.S. electricity prices could rise at a 10% clip again this year and possibly next, predicts Mark Wolfe, director of the National Energy Assistance Directors Association, even though economists have forecast overall inflation to ease to between 3% and 4% by year-end.

I don't hate her but I wouldn't vote for her for president. I feel like she tries to play both sides--the likeable, everyday girlfriend and the tough politician. I just don't know that she plays either role particularly well. People didn't like Hillary Clinton because she wasn't personable, has a snarky side and was too elitist but she never tried to be anything else. At least her persona seemed to reflect her reality. Kamala just seems fake to me. I wish she would just be who she is.

What VP has been liked while in office as VP?

And this kind of person is expected to be completely perfect every second of every day while others can fumble their way through.

10:01 poster here. I think Hilary was much more qualified, having excellent executive leadership experience. Was she particularly likeable? No, but I don't care as much as I care about having someone competent in running the executive office and having the institutional framework/team around them to execute well. She also had extensive foreign policy experience, an area where Kamala seems a little out of her depth. Of course, the influence peddling/speeches to companies and Bill's scandals and 30+ years of political baggage didn't help. I agree that Kamala doesn't seem authentic or have a particular cause that you can identify with her unlike Elizabeth Warren.

That's true of every Democrat. Democrats have to be perfect. Republicans don't have to even be decent. However, there are better Democratic options than Kamala as President.

I don't expect perfection, but I do expect competence.

And, we have not seen that. Her speeches are largely word salads delivered in a way in which a first grade teacher would talk to her students.
She has been absent in terms of her role as border czar.
The few interviews she has granted have resulted in a string of embarrassing sound bites.
I don't hate her, but I don't believe she has represented her office well.

You just proved my point. With the exception of electricity, prices are down.

Paul Krugman was talking about this on the Ezra Klein show. But what does he know?
