By all means yes, let’s help the floridly mentally I’ll who are a danger to themselves and other HUMAN BEINGS. By getting them into decent institutions where they can be monitored, protected, properly and effectively cared for and taught the necessary skills for later self care and self management. As bad as things were before deinstitutionalization, they have been far worse since. People with mental illness are tossed on the street with a bottle of pills and maybe a handout listing community clinics where they might seek a refill. There is no meaningful social, medical or psychiatric follow through. It is tragic, cruel and a disgrace. As for all the evil, terrible, malicious, sentient and self locomoting GUNS “in circulation,” are you going to take them from the police, special agents, private detectives, security guards and other law enforcement personnel? Because it’s as least as likely that this guy stole his gun from one of them (or from a criminal already prohibited from possessing it in the first place) as that he bought it somewhere. Guns are expensive and even more expensive in the underworld. Floridly mentally ill people who have been suffering for any length of time rarely have any valuables because they’ve sold, lost or had them stolen and have no way to afford replacements. And if DC didn’t prohibit the carry of Metro of licensed firearms carried by background checked, trained permit holders with a crime rate lower than law enforcement, maybe this guy would’ve been taken down before he did as much time as he did. |
Or he could just push you off the platform. We should ban that too. https://patch.com/district-columbia/washingtondc/man-shoved-metro-tracks-dc-video |

He’s the absolute worst Councilmember and needs to go. Also, where the hell is the new Attorney General? |
He’s trash and cares more about the shooter than the victims. |
|
Funny, but yes of course he is. White liberals are a huge part.of the DC political scene, telling everyone what's best for them. |
| Liberals value equity above safety and lives . |
yes, I would say this is why our city is getting more dangerous everywhere, rather than focus on making dangerous parts safer. first, let's make it equitable...then solutions? |
Agree. Why hasn’t shooter been identified? I’m guessing either homeless or a catch-and-release. |
He has been. Don’t remember his name but heard it on the news this morning. |
Violent person with access to guns. If you take mental health out of the equation you will still have violent people with access to guns and the crime rate won't change. Innocent people going about their lives are still at risk. |
Why do you assume every Democrat doesn't care about safety lol what is wrong with you |
Agree. The reality here is the shooter was mentally ill, and we have a nation where guns are easy to access. Those are real problems that the whole nation needs to address. Even if we had police presence out the wazoo, there would have been victims in this case. |
I guess the same way people assume all Republicans are racist a$$holes. |
False. If the shooter did not have easy access to guns there would have been zero victims. |
bc Dc just lowered the penalty for violent crimes |
