I am going to guess the answer is give the guy a tent and drop him off at Union Station. He's not competent to stand trial and he can't be held against his will. Oh well. |
|
He's "angry" and "wants action" - ok? Dude, you're the elected official in this situation so take a look in the mirror and be angry at yourself. Also love how he glossed over how the gunman assaulted a woman at the station and shot a few people along the way. Not a word for the victims, just gross. |
DC needs to fix this. Any time someone in DC commits a crime with a gun, or even threatens to, not just shooting, but brandishing, threatening, or for that matter even just shoplifting with a gun tucked in your waistband, there should be an automatic mandatory minimum sentence. No plea - unless it leads to the arrest and conviction of whoever sold or gave them the gun and even then only a partial reduction of sentence. |

Don't care about your crisis if you're using a gun in the middle of it. Get treatment while you're in jail. |
It’s real abuser mindset that one’s personal crisis is an excuse for causing so much trauma. |
|
The Charles Allen clip. I hear it not as concern for the shooter, but the the shorter was agitated and I’m a crisis. That’s just facts but sympathy. We do need to address the root cause - person I’m a mental health crises with acres to guns.
Never heard of Charles Allen before today but he’s not a person to blame here. Blame lax gun laws (a uniquely American issue) and lack of mental health services. |
As they already are. |
ANY sort of weapon. You mean like his hands, head, feet, teeth, stray sticks, bricks, pieces of pipe, broken glass, steak knives, pocket knives, kitchen knives, screwdrivers, pipe wrenches, flammables, chains, and pretty much any other object of daily use? All of which can be used as weapons, frequently to deadly effect. Be logical. What was going on here? A floridly insane individual somehow or another got ahold of a gun. Given his mental condition and likely prior record it was probably unlawful for him to possess in the first place. It was unlawful for him to carry it without a permit. It was unlawful for him to have it on Metro but was unlawful for him to use it as he did. Now, suppose for a moment that there was a way to remove floridly insane people from circulation until they are no longer floridly insane. No better way to prevent floridly insane people from accessing weapons of any kind. |
No time to look, but I believe this kind of enhancement is already the law in DC, at least as to felonies. |
I’d never heard of him either. I’m a lifelong dem and long term dc resident. I find his language in the clip troubling. Why does he refer to the murdered WMATA employee as “loss of life” as if it’s a passive thing, like a misplaced wallet? It would make more sense to put equal attention on the systemic mental health failure and the systemic security failure (and the person) who shot and injured people and shot and killed the wmata employee. Why is it not ok to say this? |
| The man who was murdered by a lunatic with a gun had 4 children. If anyone knows of a gofundme page please post it. |
I didn’t find his language to be passive, uncaring or disrespectful. Just my opinion. I’m the poster you responded to. |
| I’d really like to know how this guy got the gun. I do think there are more really deeply disturbed people in DC streets now than I have seen at any point in the 30 years that I’ve lived or worked in the district. The property crimes don’t seem as prevalent as they were in the early 90s but much more random senseless shit. |
I can’t believe people write things like this. Just… please read your disgusting drivel to yourself before you hit submit. You want HUMAN BEINGS “out of circulation” because your precious guns need to be everywhere all the time. What made you like this? This man killed someone within seconds and injured others- he couldn’t have done that with “broken glass.” Let’s get the GUNS out of circulation, AND let’s help mentally ill people. |
