https://dcist.com/story/23/02/01/metro-employee-killed-confronting-shooter-potomac-avenue-metro-station I feel terrible for the family of the metro employee who gave his life to protect a rider. We repeatedly hear Chief Contee say that the violent shooters in the city are a relatively small number of people who are already on the police's radar. I wish the police department would start elaborating on this statistic and every time an event happens, they announce (repeatedly) whether the perpetrator was part of that group. What is it going to take for the progressive wing of the Council to realize that their approach to crime is endangering everyone? As one cynical DCUM poster said a few months ago, every violent criminal is not "one hug away from being a brain surgeon". Anyone that shoots up a metro station like this needs to be taken out of general circulation and confined for the protection of the general public. |
| Screw the Council, Bowser needs to step up and get these people off the streets. If they're immediately released, arrest them again, make something up, I really do not care. Some people belong behind bars and "kids" who are doing this stuff should be in reform school where they can get a proper education and adult supervision. Enough with this social justice garbage. What a bunch of garbage people have fallen for, just ridiculous. |

The majority of DC residents keep voting people who do nothing effective to curb crime. I guess they actually want skyrocketing crime, or they would stop voting for it.

PS. Just a few years ago I worked right near the Potomac Avenue Metro Station, and used the Metro. |
| Ward six please recall Charles Allen and elect literally anyone. |
|
This happened in Virginia. Charles Allen can’t do squat about it.
But since it did happen in VA, unlike in DC, this guy is going away forever. |
?? Are you thinking of Potomac Yards? |
What are you talking about? It happened at the Potomac Avenue Metro stop at 14th and Pennsylvania Ave. SE. One stop from Eastern Market and two stops away from Capitol South which is where you get off to go to the US Capitol building. |
| It sounds like the shooter was mentally ill. At least his second amendment rights were protected. |
| That poor man. He saved that woman’s life. What a senseless loss. |
| We need to ban guns on metro. |
| That's Capitol Hill. |
I apologize. I was wrong. I thought this was near Potomac Ave in Alexandria. In this case, it wouldn’t surprise me if this guy will be on the street tomorrow. |
