Travel on Social Media

No, I don’t but I don’t tend to post much anyway. I don’t care if people do post. It seems like single people or families with young kids post more often. I don’t see parents posting as much with the older ES and up kids.

I used to but I lately almost entirely stopped posting on social media. Honestly I feel like social media is lame nowadays LOL.
I now create a shared album on my iPhone when I travel and I share it with closer friends / family.

I pick 4-6 pictures of the trip when it’s over and post. I don’t write a lot about the trip or gush over the details. My elderly aunts and my grandma always comment with their thanks. I’m sure that 85% of my contacts don’t care or scroll on by. I’m posting it for the 15% that are interested.

I don’t post ANYTHING on social media. It seems like it can only cause problems to do so. I’m a mid 30s millennial so I have certainly learned this the hard way. We travel a lot but I keep the photos to myself.

Absolutely, yes.

My Insta is full of travel pictures. Sharing travel adventures is part of the fun for me.

Did you grow up rich? This point of view of not sharing travels with friends and family is foreign to me. So I’m genuinely curious if it’s because you grew up rich and were taught not to brag.

Also curious about if you take photos who traveling at all. Do you ever look at them? Do you make personal print albums for yourself? What if someone asks to see them — do you make an exception?

No they’re playing rich on the internet and think sharing pictures of travel is something rich people don’t do when … they do

Lots of rich people are gauche.

I would rather be gauche than laughing at random people in the carline for posting a picture of their vacation

IKR? I am baffled by this interpretation of good manners when mockery is acceptable, but posting pics is not. Live and let live.

Yes to both of your questions. Photos are taken sparingly and for personal use only.

I don’t think there is anything superior about taking few pictures. It’s the sharing that is obnoxious.

This person grew up in Ohio but now has a nice home in Bethesda and is play-acting as a Vanderbilt or something. It is complete nonsense that wealthy people only take pictures sparingly and never ever show them to anyone else.

And you would be wrong. We are in Europe now actually (have been for weeks) and haven’t shared a single photo.

You’re in Europe but hanging out on DCUM? Who’s the gauche one now

I used to but stopped. Same with posting kid pictures. I think the bloom is off the rose with social media and posting personal stuff.

I have to admit that watching Bling Ring on how people robbed Paris Hilton's house based on social media postings made me feel more tentative about posting photos. But I only post on Facebook.

I know this bothers some and makes them jealous. But they can block me if they don't want to see it.

I love seeing photos from places I'll never make it to. So fun.

Jealous? No. But posting travel photos on social media can make you a mockery.

Wow. You sound mean. I don't mock my friends.

You are receiving yourself. We all do that. But I will plaster on a smile when I see you in the car pool line and chuckle under my breath about your trip to the Amalfi Coast or USVI or wherever. And I’m not alone.

What? Why? This is not a normal response. People (except for weirdos) do not do this.

yes and yes

I love travel photos by others, and share my own. A lot of my SM friends are travel acquaintances and I enjoy seeing their photos.

If it upsets you, unfollow or get off social media.

I like seeing others travel photos. I will post one or two, I don’t see it as tacky. It’s sharing a bit which is sort of the point of social media.

For people that view it as tacky, what do you use your social media for , if not sharing a small part of what’s going on in your life?
