Totally agree. Really surprised by the responses here.

People who’ve spent time in California pick USC. Ignorance is bliss if you think Ann Arbor, Michigan is a special place. It is currently 39 degrees and freezing rain in Ann Arbor.

Tough as it is for alumni to admit, Mich is now on par with Wiscy, Iowa, or Indiana - more a testament to how those schools have evened the playing field from an undergrad and research perspective.

USC has risen by leaps and bounds in terms of prestige during that period - USC hands down

I am a Wisconsin alum.

The bolded, absolutely not. Michigan is a top school in just about every major and program. USC has a better film school, but otherwise, no.

USC

Well, if its good enough for president's daughter, its good enough for majority.

There's very little different between Michigan, Wisconsin and Ohio State. Gigantic engineering powers in the middle on nowhere with cold depressing weather. Rah-rah sporty and social scene dominated by rich kids in Greek life.

Those major rankings are pretty worthless. Either way, USC engineering is top 15, Michigan is top 10. A USC engineer isn't getting offered less money than a Michigan engineer. Ross and Marshall b-schools are peers. USC weather and location (economy and internships) are tops. USC is private and smaller, so more student resources per capita.

If you really clamor for a big university college town experience, why not pursue merit money from an ACC or SEC university? Freezing cold and walking through a foot of snow most of the school year is about the least charming thing I can think of.

+2. I’m surprised by the answers. Ann Arbor is a great college town and with good academics/recruiting.

Imho she probably wanted USC to begin with but timings weren't socially acceptable to go there amid celebrity admission scandals, picking a state school reflected well on her parents.

If one is rich and famous, college and major choice isn't nearly as important as it is for an average person.

Regardless of a need, rich and famous still send kids to elite schools.

Sasha transferred to USC after only 3 semesters at Michigan. No surprise, she transferred during Christmas Break, before the brutal winter term.

I have two degrees from Big Ten schools and loved college but if I could go back in time, I would have applied to USC. I visited a high school friend at USC my senior year of college and it was so pretty. This was pre iPhones, so it was true eye-opener. I was so jealous. There is nothing romantic about going to college in a cold climate flyover region. Unless you're at an Ivy, then maybe all that snow and slush is worth it? Maybe.

USC has everything that Mich offers, plus sunshine, perfect weather, beaches, la, and a private school setting. USC for the win.
