30 years ago answer was easily UMich, but that’s long in the past. Tough as it is for alumni to admit, Mich is now on par with Wiscy, Iowa, or Indiana - more a testament to how those schools have evened the playing field from an undergrad and research perspective. USC has risen by leaps and bounds in terms of prestige during that period - USC hands down
I am a Wisconsin alum. The bolded, absolutely not. Michigan is a top school in just about every major and program. USC has a better film school, but otherwise, no.
Those major rankings are pretty worthless. Either way, USC engineering is top 15, Michigan is top 10. A USC engineer isn't getting offered less money than a Michigan engineer. Ross and Marshall b-schools are peers. USC weather and location (economy and internships) are tops. USC is private and smaller, so more student resources per capita. If you really clamor for a big university college town experience, why not pursue merit money from an ACC or SEC university? Freezing cold and walking through a foot of snow most of the school year is about the least charming thing I can think of.
