Why do you not use your turn signal?

Good reason.

However, I don't use my turn signals because I don't want to drain my battery.

I live in Los Angeles and if you use a turn signal, no one will let you change lanes. First rule of driving in LA is to never indicate or else you will miss your exit or turn every single time.

Yeah, most horses don't come equipped with windshield wipers.

This is one of my pet peeves, OP. I’m convinced that most people are just morons who think rules don’t apply to them. They think they’re more important than anyone else on the road and don’t care about the safety of other people.

Drive defensively.

Not waiting until a 1/4 mile before your exit to move from the left lane all the way over to the exit is also a good way to ensure you make your exit, too.

Oh Jimmy - just lift that little finger and move the lever for us - you can do it boy.

When we first arrived in DC decades ago, we were warned not to indicate before changing lanes on the 270 because otherwise people speed up to not let you in. I did not believe it at first but it is often true. I still indicate but when many cars are speeding up to not let me change lanes, I won’t indicate until just before I see a safe opening.

I use turn signals almost all the time - any time I’m driving in traffic or there’s another car in any proximity. I’ve never found it to be a hinderance for changing lanes.

If someone is close enough to speed up and zoom past when I put my turn signal on, they were probably too close to move over in front of anyway. Easy peasy.

I use my turn signal, but most people don't know how to properly use it. They think turning it on is a request for others to let you in.

But rather, it's an indicator. You should FIRST look for a window of opportunity to switch lanes. Then after you've found a spot, you turn it on to indicate you will be moving imminently. Or turning right/left, obviously. Your turn signal shouldn't generally be on for more than a few seconds.

Not necessarily. If there is bumper to bumper traffic and I see someone turn their signal on trying to come into my lane, I assume they are nearing their exit and I let them in. No big deal.

I also will let you in (blue Prius, MD tags). A turn indicator is an excellent way to let people know that you would like to change lanes when traffic is dense and there are no safe openings. Of course, some people will ignore you, some people will actively block you out but some people will let you in.

What if I'm too important for turn signals?

I definitely agree with this.

Did you just make that up out of thin air?

How can you wait for a clear space if you are in traffic and nobody lets you in? Ridiculous.
