| I’ll probably be met with dissent but for the dated elder millennial who wants to ease back in to a mildly on-trend casual mom look, Madewell is a good start. |
| I agree the more updated trends are lug boots, slackets, loose fit jeans often with rips in them, chunky sweaters, cropped tops. But I also think that for the majority of women, these trends are less attractive for the figure than the older skinnier jeans with longer tunic tops, which is unfortunate. I’ve seen the videos updating the millenials and almost always feel like they look trendier after the makeover. But worse. |
| Ugh I find a lot of the current style so unflattering for my body. Pleated jeans really??? I’m trying to find a middle ground which is most straight leg on me. Question for you all after the discussion about colored jeans— what do you think about gray/black? I have an awesome new pair of boots tho think would look good with those colors but am having trouble pulling the trigger on the gray ones… |
I feel like you are monitoring my front door cam and just described the outfits I wore to the office this week… Do I need to switch to the lug sole/chunky/combat boots? |
|
Not OP, but this thread ishelpful. Trying to figure out how to update my look post kid / post pandemic and totally lost. I am not going to be able to go full on trend, but just a bit more in that direction
So, if I keep my skinnies (not colored) in my wardrobe, what is the appropriate footwear to make them a bit less dated? |
I have gray jeans that are my most frequent flyers - I wear them constantly in the fall and winter. Go for it! |
White sneakers. Make the skinnies look like cropped pants instead. Gucci loafers are really in style too. |
This is why I love the Mother insider crops: https://www.bloomingdales.com/shop/product/mother-the-insider-high-rise-crop-step-fray-bootcut-jeans-in-girl-crush?gbraid=0AAAAAD0PCJR6vnewt_cMOqJL4avm8-DO1&ID=4066452&pla_country=US&cm_mmc=Google-PLA-ADC-_-GS_Local+Only-_-All+Products-_-192411133535-_-go_cmp-325403191_adg-23120909431_ad-80153669791_aud-359644284422:pla-558006990377_dev-m_ext-_prd-192411133535&gbraid=0AAAAAD0PCJR6vnewt_cMOqJL4avm8-DO1&gclid=CjwKCAjw7eSZBhB8EiwA60kCW9Tdi2rlGWJgOpzQ3luqBgwQC3BDh5DgrksRIT3ugWJZJP86BgT9WBoCbJUQAvD_BwE They’re fitted and flattering while being on trend. I pair mine with loafers and lug sole boots. |
One way I've seen to still wear skinnier jeans, is to wear them with a longer button-up shirt and then layer a cropped sweater over it. Like the girl on the left in this video https://www.instagram.com/p/CjGKjgZtj4P/ |
If you want to update but not go full, short-lived trend, white sneakers (Air Force Ones are always a classic) or Doc Martens. |
That’s so funny because I got a Facebook ad for basically a layering piece of clothing to make it look like you’re wearing a longer, button-up shirt under your cropped sweater. |
Yeah, go with WHITE sneakers, for wet slushy muddy fall and winter. You'll get one really cute wearing out of them! I hate literally every current trend. |
I think the skinny jean/long top look is good for apple shape, but wide leg or boot cut with a shorter top really works better for pear shaped. You're either just used to the look of the skinny jean/long top silhouette or you're an apple. Considering my waist is my best feature, I'm thrilled that the shapes I never stopped wearing are back in! |
So um, wear boots? Good lord. There’s plenty of boots that aren’t the tall pair you bought at Macy’s in 2009. |
Nope, I’m not falling for it. I’ve seen the DCUM thread about how horrific cropped pants are on all women for too many years in a row. |
