Married women with children made up 56% of abortions

At our clinic, an overwhelming number of abortions were obtained by married, 30-and-40-something women who already had a kid or a few kids. We heard the same stories over and over "My kids are teens. I cannot be pregnant again." "I can't believe I was so careless. My first pregnancy almost killed me and I can't go through that again." "My marriage is just getting back on good footing again. A new baby will destroy it all." And of course, "I don't want another kid. I'm happy with what I have."

And guess what? We even had several women seek out abortions who had previously been out front protesting with their church group and who would be back out there protesting again later that same week. You don't say anything ever. You don't make judgement. And why? Because it (was) their right to choose even if they loudly voiced against it to other women walking in.

I was there for 5 years total and to be frank, I don't even think I saw a dozen teen abortions in all those years. I never saw any under 18, that I'm certain of. Teen abortions were almost always 18-19 year olds and tied to post-rape.

Also, any woman who has had a D&C or even suffered a miscarriage will tell you that no, women aren't using incredibly painful and invasive procedures as birth control. It's just not happening.

Thank you for your post and for your service to women. Your perspective is really valuable in shedding light on the reasons women get abortions.

And yet they use it for sex selection. Stop making women out to be saints. They will use abortion for whatever they want and you have no grounds to reject, no matter how vile the reason. Irony of all you calling out femicide when sex selected abortions is one of main reasons why place like china is missing an entire generation of women.

No one uses abortion for sex selection.

And China’s former one child policy is why there were so many baby girls who needed to be adopted.

I do not believe that for one second!!

DP. According to a NYT article (no paywall on this one) which is based on CDC data,:

Six in 10 women who have abortions are already mothers, and half of them have two or more children, according to 2019 data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “One of the main reasons people report wanting to have an abortion is so they can be a better parent to the kids they already have,” Professor Upadhyay said.

Can we at least deal with facts and not beliefs or feelings when we are talking about statistics?

These fools abhor science and try to undermine it when it doesn’t line up with KJV Bible. Why do you think they’ll treat math any better? Maybe start using cubits to measure women, or how many women will fit on an arc and say things like they chose not to begat more children and they’ll start pretending to understand and care since it’s in bible terms.

What’s going to happen now? Can these states afford all the sick and special needs babies?

Yep. We are UMC and have three kids. Had an oops pregnancy a couple of years ago. Terminated early because we emphatically did not want a fourth child. We could probably afford a fourth if we stretch thin, but I don't want to stretch thin. And I emphatically do not want to go through pregnancy, babyhood, sleepless nights etc. again. No regrets whatsoever.

We also have three embryos on ice that are scheduled for "compassionate disposal" or whatever they call it.

Perhaps you could consider donating your embryos to another family. Many families who can't conceive for whatever reason but can carry can embryo to term look for embryos to adopt. Give them a chance at life and help another family.

No way I would ever stand for something like that. My genes, my choice. You want it, you pay for it and earn it.

That was my approach, but I know of a woman who aborted 2 pregnancies after nuchal ridge testing because the babies *might* have down's. I was keeping the pregnancy, unless my life was at risk, so nothing more than sonograms for me.

This forced birther talk is totally disproven by this stat. No one forced these women to engage in sexual intercourse. Maybe we just want you to live with the consequences of your actions and think before you abort just because you want to because it is not convenient!

Isn’t that what rape is? Forced sexual intercourse? Do you disagree that rape happens?

You are forcing someone to give birth. The title stays.
You can agree to sex, that doesn’t mean you agree to giving birth

And rape accounts for less than 1% of reasons for abortions.

STOP.
It doesn’t matter. Quit getting side tracked on rape. Women have a right to have sex.
They have a right to plan their families.
The 56% of women seeking abortions that already have children are making incredibly well informed decisions.

I know a UMC married woman with a kid, who had an abortion because she couldn't bare to have another child with the overbearing, angry, temperamental manchild that her husband was. They are now divorced, thankfully.

I'm furious at the angry Christian and Catholic extremists who supported this. It's now going to trap so many more women into staying in abusive relationships, and children into abusive families with shitty fathers.

Forced birthers are scum. Horrible, horrible human beings.

It’s not down’s. It’s Down Syndrome. Not Down’s syndrome. Please be respectful.

One reason people have testing done even when they won’t terminate is to learn about the challenges they’ll face and to understand the medical needs of their child. IMO, it’s best to be educated and prepared for challenges, know what resources are available to me, and have extra supports lined up in advance. I guess others prefer not to even learn the proper name of syndromes their child may have, and just cross their fingers and hope for the best.

The abortions that happen because of this are less than half a percent. These figures you pro-abortion crowd use are just basically not happening.

So are the percentage of late term abortions. But that is thrown around all the time by forced nurtures. People are just carrying around a baby for 38 weeks and then saying nope! Let’s about them!
