Vida and Alma are nice from this list, but a little less feminine than most of the other names in the thread.

FAVORITE
Nora

DON'T LIKE
Freya
Lyra - I get it's like Lyric or Lyre but I look at it and think Lycra. Maybe Lara or Laura?

OK
Thea (maybe short for Theodora) - could also be short for Althea like Althea Gibson
Flora (or maybe Florence and either Flora/Flory for nn?) - Flora can be the name, no need for Florence

NEED MORE THOUGHT
Isla - "EES-lah" or "EYE-lah" ?
Ayla - I knew an "Ayla" pronounced "EYE-lah" and she was constantly correcting. I also knew an "Ila" pronounced "EYE-lah" and she had much less trouble with people mispronouncing... but "Ila" looks unfinished somehow.

I think it’s great when young families choose names to honor relatives or other people important to them. So I like the idea of Theodora, and I would even use the nickname Téa!

I think this would be very weird -- I don't always think nn have to perfectly match the longer name, but doing a nn with an accent when the full name doesn't have one might be a bridge too far.

Also, while I like the idea of naming kids after relatives or important people, I am not in love with naming girls after men by feminizing the male name. Men already get honored a lot! And they already pass their names down to sons a lot, even though women rarely pass names down to daughters. So giving a girl a name to honor a male family member just kind of further perpetuates this. Find a female relative to honor for once!

I like Lena from this list, and it also made me think of Leda which I think is very pretty and uncommon.

Oh, and I heard Rhoda for a little girl recently and at first was a bit taken aback but it's really growing on me!

But we do have a pretty good sense of the style of name we want based on our last name and our preferences. Here are some names that are currently in the mix. Please feel free to tell me your favorites, which ones you don't like (and preferably explain why), and suggest others that seem in keeping with these picks. All fun right now, it's fine if you don't like a name but if so please suggest something you like better!

Nora
Freya
Thea (maybe short for Theodora)
Lyra
Flora (or maybe Florence and either Flora/Flory for nn?)
Isla
Ayla

... sensing a theme? We are not totally married to two-syllables or "ends with -a" but we seem to be heavily drawn to these.

I put the ones I like in bold.
