Changed jobs twice in past 12 months...both wanted drug tests

Thank you! After decades of the poor black community being over policed as drug users the wealth is being correctly spread to upper middle class whites

Very common. Shouldn't be a problem unless you are using drugs. (FYI: I take concerts for ADHD and it was never flagged in a drug test).

Not as many people as you think are using cocaine AND only occasionally. I’m a detox nurse.

Your prescriptions aren’t disclosed to your employer. If you screen positive for adderall or something and have a prescription, the lab contacts you for documentation. That info isn’t shared with the employer.

I think it’s so gross to think about urine in relation to my job. For one job, I went a facility and used a bathroom where they had removed the running water and colored the toilet water blue. That way, people could not dilute their urine. I was treated as guilty or as though I had committed a crime.

At another job, they said at the last minute I had to come into the office. I was headed out of town and said no. When I showed up to my first day, an embarrassed HR worker greeted me in the lobby and said I had to walk to a lab and pee in a cup. She barely made eye contact with me. That was my “welcome” to the “illustrious” WaPo.

No more drug tests for me. I don’t do drugs. If they can’t tell that by looking at me, that’s not my problem.

My only complaint about the drug tests is that they can be inconvenient to schedule and sometimes I struggle to pee on command. But I don't really have an issue with them.

It's also a legal requirement in the financial and insurance industries if you work for a regulated company (bank, broker-dealer, etc). Also required for any companies where you are operating vehicles or machinery.

Not true. I work for a regulated finance company and they don’t drug test. I’ve never been drug tested for a job.

My friend living and working in a state with legal marijuana use was told that their company would start requiring drug tests annually for all employees. He’s a frequent user so looking for a new job. It’s a tech company that was bought a few years ago by company that was a donor of the Trump campaign (got some bad press from that a few years ago). Not a smart move on their part based on the sector and state most workers live.

OP here - they're not super inconvenient. I drink a gallon of water that morning and I'm set.

I guess I just wonder if the need for the tests across all stratosphere of work says something about a changing American society and the next generation of a qualified workforce being eliminated before they even have a chance.

An autopsy has revealed that two Woodlands High School seniors had fentanyl in their systems when they died earlier this month.

Some bizarre statements here:
- you don't have to think about urine unless you're in Healthcare. I don't know why you would think about urine at work just because you once had to do a drug screen
- it's pretty standard to have measures to prevent diluting of urine in the bathroom. Of course it's a trust but verify, that's the entire point of a drug test
- most importantly, your statement that an employer should be able to tell by looking at you that you don't use drugs is quite telling. The point of drug screening is to identify high functioning addicts. And you can't tell that someone uses drugs by appearances only.

Do you have reason to be concerned about the results, op?

Does it feel good when you wipe your ass with the Bill of Rights?

Amazing, and how it should be. I've had to take four drug tests in my 40 years on earth, including just a few months ago for a new job.

Except for problem drinkers. But it does a good job weeding out productive MJ users, though.

What does this have to do with pre-employment drug screening?

I had to do a drug test pre-Covid as a white collar, high salary job. In health care as someone said. I wasn’t involved in any kind of patient care, but some people in my company would be, so I think they require it across the board.
Wasn’t a big deal, though it was interesting to go to a drug testing place.
