Says a druggie. |
why wouldn't it catch someone on cocaine? And if a company has a morality clause in their contract which states 'no weed', well, they can test for it. It's still a federal crime as well. Off limits for government workers in all forms. |
| The only job I've had to take a drug test for was a white collar position in a company that primarily employs blue collar positions. |
There are people of all classes dying every day from drug overdoses. Its bad. I personally am aware of two deaths (one college student and another a grad) in the past 6 years. |
because cannabis is the only common drug that can be detected up to 30 days after use. All of the others (alcohol, cocaine, heroine, etc..), you just have to stay clean for a couple of days before your test and you will pass. |
Except you get a notice and have to take a drug test within 48 hours. So unless you're the type of druggie who doesn't do 'hits' for weeks at a time...you'll be caught. |
| Dumbest thing ever. I've never even seen pot, and it's a waste of my time to test for a company who doesn't care what I do after I'm hired. |
Your prescriptions aren’t disclosed to your employer. If you screen positive for adderall or something and have a prescription, the lab contacts you for documentation. That info isn’t shared with the employer. |
Yep. H is in biotech and has always been tested. When he started as a rep, he'd get tested randomly - he'd get a call to get to the nearest Quest or Labcorp within 2 hours. He works in strategy now and gets tested when he starts a new job. |
I started in IB at Lehman (yes, I'm a dinosaur) and everyone was doing coke to be able to keep up with the insane hours. |
I wouldn’t either. And i have never done anything other than cannabis, which I haven’t touched for over 20 years. |
Not too bright are you? |
The point that usually goes right over the heads of most ignorant drug testing advocates is that Cannabis use is commonly only occasional and “off the clock” (aka no “hits for weeks at a time”) and will get you fired yet using much more dangerous drugs at the same rate will not show up on a drug test. That seriously undermines the justification that drug testing is necessary for workplace safety or performance. Smoking cannabis on a weekend camping trip three weeks ago shouldn’t get me fired from my job while my coworker doing coke on a business trip flys under the radar. |
| Of the last three tech companies I worked for, only one, AT&T, wanted a drug test. AT&T also wanted me to fill out a timecard for a salaried position. |
