Ask either way. It is your best chance to see what the Teachers think about your child. They are not the canned answers you get on the report card. There is more on their strengths and weaknesses and you get a better feel for what it is that your child's Teachers are seeing. I found it an interesting read and we didn't need to appeal.

I thought it was very accurate, for both my DC who was admitted and for my DC who was not.

When the application file is in review by central committee, what is the process like? Once the file has been submitted by school, does anyone from selection committee contact the child’s school?

Our VP explained it like this (when it was done live, no clue it if it was live/virtual this year): Member of the central committee are seated at a table with a stack of submissions. Member A picks up a folder and says "Larla Jones from ABC Elementary." Nobody at that table should have any connection to a submission (no past teacher/admin at the school, no personal relationship, etc.). If there is one, the submission is set aside and reassigned to another table.

Each person at the table reviews the submission. I don't know if they have them digitally to see so they can also review at the same time or what. Then they "vote" yes or no, and off they go to the next folder. They do not do any further research into the candidate or contact the school for anything additional.

(Caveat: I have no clue if this is entirely accurate, but it is how it was portrayed to us during our parent meeting with the AART and VP. If someone knows different, please share!)

Committees are sometimes aware of how many slots are available, equity objectives, or admission objectives of FCPS
Prior to selection there is a training for the committee where these angles are addressed.

Go back and look at the drop off in admissions a couple years ago when they changed the FCPS admittance angles. Same tests, same applications, but dramatic difference in admissions numbers: down overall yet up for some categories.

They will not send it so early in the week. It will be Thursday or Friday, or next week.

I am little stressed about the decision. His Cogat score is okay, not sure about GBRS, want him to be in full AAP, so that he don't have to deal with pull out classes, he is kind of bored with his current Math and LA classes and I am not surprised with that.

What do you define as "okay" and did he take the NNAT?

In terms of being bored, aren't the vast majority of 2nd graders bored in school? I know tons of parents who described their kids that way in 2nd grade whose kids did not get in. They stopped being bored in 3rd grade. 3rd grade is a big step up academically even if your kid is not in AAP so don't stress if he does not get in.

This mom is concerned about her child being bored in 2nd grade, don’t tell her he will be fine if he doesn’t get in AAP.

Anyone know if the school/AART is notified before the parents are? And is it the schools that send the emails out or the central committee?
