Help me get past my hangup with the Subaru image!

Also, did you seriously say "not that there's anything wrong with that"?? WTF????

This times a million. Did you time travel from 1994? Please tell us what you think of Donald Trump and the downfall of democracy? Perhaps when you go back to the 90s, you can warn them.

Why do you care if someone mistakes you for a lesbian?

I agree.

We actually have an Outback on order and my sister drives a Crosstrek. My father is probably rolling in his grave at the thought of his daughters owning Japanese cars, but times have changed.

More than likely that subaru was made in Indiana.

Interesting article. They actively marketed to the LGBT community, so it's no surprise the stereotype developed... because it's basically true.

Anonymous wrote:Wtf, op. Your stereotypes are bizarre. If anything the only stereotype about Subaru owners is they’re smart and sensible. My FIL used to run a dealership and he said all kinds of people bought subarus. The common thread was they tended to be financially responsible, they would either pay cash or have good credit and get the lowest interest.

That is fascinating. I bought my last one cash. I think it's because they are not showy.

We paid cash for our Subaru at Fitzgerald in Rockville. When we were dealing with the accounts payable/finance guy to pay for the car, he told us half the Subarus they sell are to cash buyers.

That's pretty insane. I think its because - as you said - they are not showy and you get a sh#t-ton of tech and features for a Subaru that cost extra in Toyotas, Lexus, etc.

I'm the person whose FIL used to manage dealerships and he worked for a couple automakers...he said Subaru had the most cash buyers and also the most loyal customers.

I bought mine in cash but in VA, because the subaru dealership in MoCo was all out of the newer models. I had to go on a waitlist.

Wut

True for the Subaru Outback and forester. Not for the WRX obviously

I, female, drove a 2004 turbo charged forestor. It was a wrx engine with a soccer mom shell. I was compelled to get the soccer mom shell car when I got pregnant, but I was not ready to give up on my sports car engine.

sigh.. I miss that car. Just had to get rid of it. But, man, that thing was a gas guzzler, especially the way I drove it

+1 lol.. IMO, Subaru is higher up on the "looks" totem pole.

Lol. I'm a Gen X-er from the west coast. Subarus were practical, rugged, outdoorsy cars that also work in the city - easier to parallel park than the SUVs of the 90s, for sure! But they were also lesbian cars.

I've owned three in my life. Love them. I embraced the rugged outdoorsy image - and while I'm not a lesbian, my 20yo self loved the way the company embraced that connection and ran with it. It was a bit daring and anti-establishment at the time, which I could totally get behind.

Subaru is definitely a little cooler and more mainstream now than say, 15-20 years ago so maybe newer owners (or younger owners) aren't aware?

I wish I could find the meme my friend sent when DH and I bought our Forester in 2012, it was a fake ad that said something like "Congrats to you and your partner on your new Subaru." We're straight. We got a chuckle.

That fact that you don't see anything wrong with that is just

I have no idea what any car brands project, so I just buy based on reliability, specs, those boring sort of things.

I see I'm lucky

If anyone over the age of 30 is an "older woman", then sure! I live in the close in suburbs and they are EVERYWHERE. Like it's guaranteed when I pull up to pick my kids up from school or daycare, there will be another Outback in the parking lot. They are good, reliable, spacious, AWD, affordable - this is what I was looking and what I got. I've had mine 10 years, likely to have at least a few more.

NP - I certainly don't since "partner" means your significant other, and not specifically your same-sex significant other. In medicine, particularly in reproductive medicine/genetic counseling, that term is used to mean the person you are procreating with.

Right?? I can't believe OP is a Minivan Mama and is worried someone might think she's gay because she drives a Subaru. Are you worried about your Instagram followers in Utah might think? LOL
