Help me get past my hangup with the Subaru image!

Anonymous
I currently drive a 10 year old minivan. So I’m hardly cool or image conscious. We’ve looked at almost all the 3 row mid size SUV, and the one we like the way is the Subaru Ascent. But I’m totally hung up on the fact that it’s a Subaru! We are not urban hipsters and we are not outdoorsy. We don’t camp or kayak. We are also not LGBT (not that there is anything wrong with that.) We are boring average suburbanites.

So what is my hangup? Shrink me because I want to want this car.

I dunno, I hated the way they looked until I married into one, and now I love them.

Do you have a dog?

A new outback or forester are THE cars for boring middle aged suburbanites. I mostly see old people driving them.

Your hang ups are at least 15 years old, OP. And seriously, WTF is wrong with you that you even CARE that Subaru used to market to LGBTQ+ people? Buy the car that fits your needs.

Also, did you seriously say "not that there's anything wrong with that"?? WTF????

Don't buy the car. Other Subaru owners don't want to associate with bigots like you.

Can attest,

—Boring, old suburbanite who drives a Forester.

Love my Ascent. Boring suburban mom.

WTAF. You need to take a good look at yourself and your bigoted beliefs. I am a straight, Black, 45 year old mom of two and have had two subarus over the past 12 years.

One Suburu was enough for a lifetime for me. Never again and I don’t care who drives them.

We're also boring suburbanites. One Forester, one ascent. Love them both.

Yeah. The "image" you describe is weird. I loved my Outback and it was super popular among other moms in my part of Arlington. It was so safe, reliable and the paint held up so much better than my other cars. Now I miss it

:waves hi: Me too. They are very safe, and good in all weather. We are not "adventurous" but we have a dog and we take the scouts camping and we sometimes buy mulch for the yard. The forester is perfect for us. Eyeing the new electric they have coming out soon.

It's really sad that you have gotten this far into adulthood and are still hung up on your "image."

Who are the people who will be judging you? Other random drivers? The mean moms? Srsly, grow up and get the car you need/want.

Agree. I mean... really, OP. You think you will drive around town in your Subaru and people will (1) care and (2) assume you are a kayaking lesbian?
