I've owned three in my life. Love them. I embraced the rugged outdoorsy image - and while I'm not a lesbian, my 20yo self loved the way the company embraced that connection and ran with it. It was a bit daring and anti-establishment at the time, which I could totally get behind.

Butch, if you will.

Subaru is definitely a little cooler and more mainstream now than say, 15-20 years ago so maybe newer owners (or younger owners) aren't aware?

I wish I could find the meme my friend sent when DH and I bought our Forester in 2012, it was a fake ad that said something like "Congrats to you and your partner on your new Subaru." We're straight. We got a chuckle.

That fact that you don't see anything wrong with that is just

NP - I certainly don't since "partner" means your significant other, and not specifically your same-sex significant other. In medicine, particularly in reproductive medicine/genetic counseling, that term is used to mean the person you are procreating with.

That's probably true for the younger crowd, but for people in their 40s and up, partner has a gay/lesbian connotation.

Would you prefer being a BMW driver?

I live in New England and every other car on the road is a Subaru. My teen drives an Outback and the school parking lot is 90% Subaru. They’re reliable, practical, and great in bad weather.

Proud Subaru driver here! I’m 53, semi-boring former SAHM turned later in life professional in a caring profession.

I remember Martina Navratilova advertising for Subaru and their acceptance and acknowledgment that their cars appealed to lesbians! My longtime friend and boss, an out and proud lesbian (and Subaru driver) explained Subaru’s long-established appeal; the cars are just about maintenance free but tough, economical and their all weather design allows for stress free adventure. So, go car camping and tailgating and tow that U-Haul.

Which brings up a cliched joke: what do lesbians do on a second date? Rent a UHaul and move in together.

Tried to convince our Daughter to buy one because we like our so much. She said if she drove it to her hiking events or running events it would be harder to meet you guys because they would assume she was gay. I was a little surprised that she would immediately discount the car and wondered the same thing. Do a lot of people think like that?

I'm 41, and it doesn't for me.

only dumb ones?

Both my nieces drive subarus. One has had two LTR with men, and the other is dating a guy. 20s and 30s. They live in NE.

I also drive a subaru - hetero, middle aged mom. DH is looking at getting a subaru next year.

I looked at Subarus at the last car show I went to-literally days before covid hit-and the Subaru display area had live rescue puppies!!! It was really popular.

Anyhow, at the time, they did not have any electric vehicles for sale 'in my region' but googling now I see they do, a solterra. I'll have to check it out

I didn’t read all the comments so I don’t know where OP lives, but it seems like 1/3 of all moms in my Arlington neighborhood/ school / preschool drive an Outback or Accent.

I would rather drive a Subie than a minivan. I would rather drive anything than a minivan.

No, I’d prefer a Volvo but those are out of budget. I’m also considering VW Atlas.

Kayakers drive Subarus
True hipsters take Uber and are afraid to drive
Not all Subaru drivers kayak

Get the Subaru if you like it. I think it is a fine option.

This is a lie. No black person has ever owned a subaru
