What fills you up and keeps you satiated?

I make steel cut and add raisins or cranberries, and I'm always hungry before lunch.

The raisins have sooo much sugar. Sub in a whole fruit and add 1 tbs of 1/2 and 1/2. Make sure to add vanilla extract, salt and cinnamon.

Oatmeal doesn't keep me full, either. Anything with a lot of carbs/sugar (the raisins!) tends to make me hungry faster. Get some protein and a little fat in the mix.

Yeah, I often add blueberries and some slivered almonds, still doesn’t keep me going until lunch.

How bad is the smell and how difficult is prep?

No smell at all! Prep takes 5 minutes.

Potato, even just two bites and I’m good. I microwave a potato/sweet potato and only have 1/2 of it as a snack if I’m tempted to eat something.

Eggs, meat, fish, cheese, avocado, yogurt, etc.-the usual fat and protein laden stuff is what keeps me satiated. All of my meals have at least one of the aforementioned items, in addition to veggies and smaller amounts of starch. I rarely, if ever, snack between meals as a result.

Hummus and sweet peppers, cheese stick, hard boiled egg sliced with a tuna packet, apple with PB2 butter

Having big ol' bowl of oatmeal for lunch right now with blueberries, sunflower seeds, craisins, and tsp of whole milk. Yummm and will hold me over for several hours.

While a weird addition for oatmeal, I’ve been adding Icelandic yogurt. Seems to work for me. Also coffee tends to stretch out the time before I need lunch. And I’m fine being a little hungry sometimes.

You need to find what works for you. For me, if I eat rags first thing I do not feel hungry for hours. Anything else, and I feel hungry right away. Later in the day, vegetables help.

But, figure out - are you Hungary for calories, volume of food or flavor? I think some diets are so restrictive you can feel hungry because you crave better food.

As in, you mix the yogurt in the oatmeal? It doesn’t get curdled or clumpy?

Sorry, I was unclear. I just sort of put it on top in a corner like you would sour cream with chili I guess. I then kind of take small bits of the yogurt and eat it with the other stuff mixed into the oatmeal. I also have a preference for the one that is 0% fat versus 2% for some reason; I buy the siggis stuff. Like I said, weird, but it works for me. Its 10AM, I ate breakfast at 7:30. Active middle-aged male where my projected calorie requirements are probably anywhere from 2600-3000 (though I never eat this much) and I will have no trouble making it to lunch time while drinking coffee and water this morning.
