Where can I move that is warmer, slightly cheaper, somewhat liberal with good schools?

Nowhere is exclusively liberal or conservative. Though it's true that blue states have been schools, overall.

Cary, NC, (it's not close to water, but it fits the rest)

Cary = containment area for relocated Yankees

(That’s what people who live there call it according to someone I know who lives there)

The price of housing is skyrocketing in FL because so many people, both red and blue, are moving there. However, relatively cheap housing can still be found in these areas if you are comparing to the DC area.

Despite many ignorant opinions to the contrary on DCUM I find FL to be a delightful place to live and I am staunchly democrat. Like other states (Virginia for example) the rural areas are almost completely red and the urban areas are almost completely blue. Registered Republicans in FL just recently started to barely outnumber registered Democrats after many years of the opposite. So it's pretty purple basically.

With the warm climate, decent schools in certain areas, and lower COL it's not too tough to ignore or tolerate whatever politics or political opinions you have a problem with and just live your own life.

Don't know about the Sarasota County schools, but the idea that St. Johns County schools are the best in Florida is horrifying. I have family that lives there, and those schools are atrocious. The St. Johns County school system wold probably be the worst school system between Baltimore and Richmond.

You are a bitter, spiteful liar. What's #1 on this list? https://www.niche.com/k12/search/best-school-districts/s/florida/

NP, but similar to OP except what if removed warmer criteria? I'm fine with weather/climate similar to DC or even colder, but looking for slightly cheaper, somewhat liberal (emphasis on somewhat, not liberal), and with good schools.

That’s easy — Portland Maine , Burlington Vermont, Ithaca New York

If you want much cheaper, ok with moderate politics, not near water — Hershey, pa

Agree. And Burlington is a great city!

100%. My Dad has a business in that area and I know a few people from when I went to HS down there. RDU is one of the fastest growing areas and you are seriously going to overpay for housing. It may pay off, may not.

I would live in the area but my DH cannot get a fed job in his agency down there. I can work remote FT if needed.

I attended HS in both Wilmington and Greenville NC. If you are in higher-level classwork your kids will be fine.

I've heard good things about Austin. It isn't on the ocean but you could find a recreational property within a reasonable drive that is.

No one is disputing that they are good schools relative to the other schools in Florida.

If liberal states/localities are run so poorly why are they always the ones who fund the more conservative areas (with a few exceptions)? Most of the southeast would wither away with the dollars from the liberal states.

*without the dollars

My first thought was Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, NC as well. Not on the water but not that far - in the eastern half of the state.

From your perch at CBO you seem to know everything. Care to post stats.

It's less trumpy than we expected, some red pockets but overall pretty purple. Schools are right behind Fairfax in the state rankings. Beach isn't amazing but, it's pretty good, especially in the off season and shoulder season without tourists. It is cold right now, but this is abnormal for us. Usually hardly dips below freezing. Real estate is more expensive than you'd think (just compared to DMV, but still less expensive), and things like kid activities are way cheaper here than DMV.
