What schools do you think are on the rise (ranking/reputation)

Yes on the rise doesn’t mean the machinations among the top 20

Objectively, why is Case Western on the rise in ranking/reputation, and where do you think it'll be in, say, 20 years?

Don't see Rice going any higher. The correct answer are Brown, Emory, Vanderbilt, Columbia, Stanford ( can Stanford rise anymore), BC, and I hate to admit it but NYU.

Emory? If anything it's stagnant.

no. That's Georgetown, Cornell, Dartmouth, UVA. Emorys app numbers are up while most others are down. That along with being in the news constantly. Emory and Brown have the most potential actually, when you consider both schools are horrible at engineering.

Define stagnant in this case...

What are you talking about? Cornell posted record apps and a record low acceptance rate. It's popularity is as high as its ever been, and unlike any of the schools you just mentioned, it remains a heavyweight in both research and academia.

Rice has always been a phenomenal school which attracts the best and brightest from around the world due to its low tuition. Those in the DC bubble can keep their tunnel vision.

+1 it is always funny when people are all "but it's in the south!" "but it's in Texas!" it just shows that they aren't paying attention and/or don't know what they are talking about. inter-state migration patterns show that the northeast states are LOSING people (NJ, NY, IL, CT, and CA are the top losers) and the southern states & Texas are growing like wildfire.

I don't see it for Cornell, a declining ranking and it's not as popular with the prep school crowd as it used to be. And every school had record apps last, that doesn't count especially considering Cornell is test BLIND.

I can't say about where Case will be in 20 years but my experience has been that the university puts a high priority on research opportunities for its undergraduates from almost their first semster onward. With their location among 3 major health and research systems, the Cleveland Clinic is a couple of blocks away walking distance from campus, and the way faculty actively support their students in connecting with opportunities, beyond the classroom exposure is Case's thing. To be briefer, opportunities abound.

This is true but Rice has an expansion plan that could stifle momentum.

Top 30 might be tricky.
However it was ranked 42 last year.
There are a lot schools with lower stats in Top 40, so Top 40 is more than realistic with the current trend.
Current acceptance rate is 18%-20% and the quality of the applicant pool is excellent.

Really? I feel like its reputation has waned except in CS where it remains stellar.

No. Tepper still places well.
CMU is less woke than other schools.

It’s good for umc unhooked kids who are hard workers and want access to corporate jobs

CMU on campus recruiting is way better than JHU for instance (I say this as a big fan of JHU)
