Anyone else think schools will be virtual after Winter Break?

There is a lot of that. The vaccines aren’t stopping people from getting sick

Vaccinated people are getting a cold, tops, unless there is a major other issue. Infected is more accurate than sick. Let's calm down. Many physicians are saying don't freak out about omicron.

Hospital capacity is becoming an issue again and Maryland will no longer be scheduling elective surgeries (many of which are still critical to health). You people are in complete denial about the coming surge.

The news moves quickly on Omicron, and you need to keep up. We thought it was mild, but now there's a study of patients in UK hospitals that shows it might actually be as virulent as Delta. It's just a preliminary study, but the point is... don't think this is all a big deal for nothing.

Keep up. That study is garbage

Source?

How about this which directly contradicts it

There is none, since the study just came out today. That troll is posting on all the threads trying to squash that study, because it doesn't go with their "Omicron is no big deal" agenda.

The study was based on 24 people. 24 PEOPLE IN THE HOSPTIAL! Why? Because they don't have enough hospital admissions in the UK to do a larger study. Interesting...

And the US news media picks it's up and runs with it like it's gospel (and the end of the world).

The study is complete and total garbage. Shouldn't even be in the news.

Be aware that tests may be in short supply when schools start up again in January. At some point I expect a test shortage.

This is true and really disappointing. It’s almost been two years. There’s no excuse for not having a better testing situation!!!

time for schools to issue the vaccine mandate if you want to be in person or stay home.
breakthroughs yes but hopefully hospitalizations remain mild among unvaccinated
masks will stay
CDC doesn’t say unvaccinated shouldn’t travel and we are going. testing testing and going
testing when we get back
yes it’s alarming but if the vaccines mitigate severe disease then it’s time to move on and live with COVID bc it is NEVER going away.

0% chance you are moving.

Idk. I talked with a friend in FL who said that her kids private school has been getting a lot inquiries in the last week from people looking to move. Someone, at least, is asking about it.

If that’s the case why are Maryland’s hospitals crowded? Really high vax rate.

Funny how facts shit down that liberal talking point.

You people are idiots, just the the unvaccinated fools winding up in the hospitals. It isn’t vaccinated people being admitted.

Can you show us the data that no vaccinated people have been hospitalized or died of covid? Its simply not true.

School will continue, masked, as usual, and 99% students vaccinated. They will have the results same day so they will decide by the end of the day if they need to go virtual or not.

This is a very reasonable and measured approach.

That's a terrible approach. Why wouldn't you delay the return one day? Why risk everyone with gathering, when you could do it safely the very next day?

What school is this?

I agree. Our school is testing on return, but with Omnicron it makes more sense to do it before gathering. Even if it means changing the original start date

My spouse and I were discussing a speech Biden gave in the early fall about how we were going to focus on copious and extremely low priced rapid tests as one leg in America's Covid fighting arsenal. Where are they?

I think it's very likely the first week back will switch to virtual

AAMC said 70% of its COVID-19 patients are unvaccinated and that the vaccinated patients have underlying health conditions. Just one of them got the booster shot.

I know you don’t want to hear this, but healthy, vaccinated, boosted people are fine.

Our small Christian school in moco has gone virtual for 1/3 and 1/4. Kids need to get a Covid test then can come back on Weds 1/5 as long as it’s negative. I’m ok with this.

That means 30% are vaccinated and that is a high number of vaccine failures.
