Anyone else think schools will be virtual after Winter Break?

There is a lot of that. The vaccines aren’t stopping people from getting sick

Vaccinated people are getting a cold, tops, unless there is a major other issue. Infected is more accurate than sick. Let's calm down. Many physicians are saying don't freak out about omicron.

School will continue, masked, as usual, and 99% students vaccinated. They will have the results same day so they will decide by the end of the day if they need to go virtual or not.

This is a very reasonable and measured approach.

That's a terrible approach. Why wouldn't you delay the return one day? Why risk everyone with gathering, when you could do it safely the very next day?

What school is this?

When nearly the entire population is vaccinated and masked, it's not creating a huge risk.

Your trips to crowded malls and grocery stores are more dangerous.

Your argument falls apart where it starts. Unfortunately, we are far from having “nearly the entire population” fully vaccinated. Regardless of whether you were talking about DC alone, DMV combined, or more broadly, you are wrong.

Our school just pushed back return one day so all students can get their own test prior to first day and report it to school ahead of time.

I think so and am searching for good schools in Florida. I am done with this ridiculous approach.

Please keep up.

The school population. 98% of students, 100% of the faculty. Vaccinated and mandatory masks. All getting tested on first day.

You being in a spaced out room of fully vaccinated people, all wearing masks is safer than your trip to Wegmans or that neighborhood holiday open house or dinner at grandmas with the extended family or that airplane you got on for work or vacation.

If that’s the case why are Maryland’s hospitals crowded? Really high vax rate.

Funny how facts shit down that liberal talking point.

The news moves quickly on Omicron, and you need to keep up. We thought it was mild, but now there's a study of patients in UK hospitals that shows it might actually be as virulent as Delta. It's just a preliminary study, but the point is... don't think this is all a big deal for nothing.

Keep up. That study is garbage

No, I don’t. We had covid in our school this fall. Parents complained about having to quarantine when their kids were close contacts. So the school let it go. No quarantine, no testing just because the parents didn’t want it. So if they are going to do away with that, then no way will they close.

Be aware that tests may be in short supply when schools start up again in January. At some point I expect a test shortage.

There is none, since the study just came out today. That troll is posting on all the threads trying to squash that study, because it doesn't go with their "Omicron is no big deal" agenda.

Thank you. The UK is showing that O is clearly a minimal threat. Don't believe me? Look at the hospitlizations and ICU admissions in the UK. Not even a blip upward...still extremely low. And cases have been skyrocketing for months. Same as South Africa.

But here in the MoCo we close everything. Maybe Florida got it right. The hysteria in the DC region is beyond belief at this point...
