Gun Control - Why isn't more done

Look, I’m not your enemy here.

I wanted a gun because I live alone. Also, I think it’s important that more Black people educate themselves about guns and become gun owners. I don’t think guns are for everyone. But, it’s important to look at what’s happening around you. If we don’t educate ourselves, we become like sitting ducks.

Again, I’m 100% for gun reform. While I continue to vote for people who will make this happen, I’m making sure I can protect myself if need be.

As it is right now, it’ll take decades for us to see any change after we enact common-sense gun reform.

People who want gun reform are not anti-gun.

thanks for the contributing to the problem of gun violence in this country. Gullible people watch fox news and think crime is out of control, they rush out and buy a bunch of weapons of war. Some eventually have mental issues or have stress or their kids get bullied and suddenly they either turn the gun on themselves or go out and hurt a lot of people. It's just tragic at this point.

Your hysteria and hyperbole helps absolutely nothing. I am not contributing to the problem of gun violence in this country.

How is it hyperbolic to claim that gullible people buy guns and become a menace to society? Did you think the sandy hook mom bought guns knowing her autistic kid would go on a shooting spree. Nobody think they are a gun nutter, you all think you are “responsible” gun owners and it has done nothing to stop tragedies in this country.

I agree that it’s tragic. And the SH mom shouldn’t have been able to have the arsenal of guns she had…especially since her son was previously reported for his behavior.

As a single Black woman, however, I will not sit unarmed waiting for this country to enact common-sense gun laws. I’ve felt threatened for many years now. Unlike many others, I’m making sure I’m properly trained and educated on the use of my gun.

I also vote every damn election for people who want the same gun reform I do.

Disparage me, call me names… I don’t care. You might want to spend more time talking to the voting block who votes for this free-for-all gun state we live in. (Hint: It’s not Black women.)

Sorry but you don’t need an arsenal of guns to do serious damage. A basic handgun can carry 10-20 bullet clips and it takes a second to reload. The tragedy wouldn’t have been lessened if the perpetrator had just a handgun. I just can’t take you seriously because you are contributing very much to the problem that you have previously said you cared about.

Great, we’re even.

If Germany's jews had been well armed then the holocaust could not have happened. If the Tutsi people in Rwanda had been well armed their genocide would have been preventable. Never forget.

The problem in this country isn’t the number of guns. It’s the number of criminals walking around on the streets who can get access to those guns.

Switzerland has 2.4 million guns for only 8.2 million people. And yet they only have a firearm homicide rate of 0.15/year (/100,000 people) whereas the US has a firearm homicide rate of 4.46/year(/100,000 people) and that number is rising dramatically.

The difference is that we have a lot more violent criminals walking around on our streets here.

I guess anti gun liberals aren’t really that concerned about QAnon folks arming up and giving lots of power to police departments that are increasingly becoming conservative hotbeds.

At the rate this country is going you will have to wear body armor and carry a rifle just to go to the grocery store

In places like San Fransisco and Chicago it’s definitely getting close to that. There was a shootout in broad daylight in SF a few days ago in an area that never had that type of crime previously.

We need to bring back law and order quickly or this country is really going to hell.

Violent gun violence is skyrocketing in our country and every night there is a shooting in DC.

The "gun violence" that is surging is in overwhelmingly deep blue jurisdictions. Of course actually addressing that is hard, good thing it is easier to advocate for taking away the rights of law abiding citizens.

No one is advocating for your rights to be taken away. Turn off OANN, my guy.

Also, the only way to address gun violence is to address it on a national scale….and because there are so many damn guns out there, it’ll take decades to see any results. But, yeah, let’s keep claiming nothing is being done when you are too damn scared to do support this country doing anything for fear of losing your symbol of masculinity.

And let’s be clear, you don’t give a shit about Chicago beyond using it as a talking point.

Anytime you want to fix Chicago, feel free. Democrats have held power there for 50+ years.

What are you waiting for?

+1

I don’t get this either.

Same as Baltimore. Where’s the outrage about half a century (or longer?) of 100% democratic leadership and one of the most dangerous cities in the developed world to show for it?

I know they love to blame neighboring cities or states for supplying their criminals with guns, but why don’t they just lock up all those criminals so they can’t shoot anyone else?? It’s not like the gang members are all hiding. The Boy Scouts in the city aren’t spraying bullets around, it’s the gang members.

Take some responsibility for cleaning up your own cities.

Democrats are too busy with nonsense like defunding police, sanctuary cities, and no-cash bail. Ridiculous.

Hopefully, we can overcome voter suppression and make this happen. (Voter protection laws should be the top priority for the Biden Administration!)

All that said, I am a Black woman who purchased her first gun (a Glock 9mm) last month.

It’s important to have more Black gun owners….especially Black women. I’ll de dammed if I let republican Qooks be the only gun owners in this country.

Curious why you bought your first gun, PP. Do you live or work in a dangerous area?

I’ve wanted one for years, but I never got off my butt to get one. The opportunity presented itself when I went to the Gun Show at Dulles Expo, so I got it.

I’ll also note, I was thrilled to see there were many Black people at the gun expo.

I do not work of live in a dangerous area….but, I am a single woman.

Good for you. Congratulations! If you haven’t already, take a gun safety course and go to the range to get used to handling, loading, firing, and unloading checking it is clear. Keep it locked too unless you don’t have kids / kids in the house ever.

This is what responsible gun owners do. Magically, the gun won’t get up and load itself and start randomly shooting people like many anti-gun nuts will claim. Shooting crimes, accidents, and suicides are about people, not about an inanimate tool.

Thanks for the advice. I actually went to a local range before buying the gun. (I had a gun-owning relative with me to show me everything.) It turns out my aim is pretty damn good! 😁😁

I know how to take the gun apart and clean it. I live alone, so I’m not worried about anyone else loading it. I do keep it secure, though.

I’m not an “anti-gun nut,” but I’m very much for gun reform. It’s desperately needed. There are many gun owners who believe we need gun reform….despite what gun nuts would have everyone believe.

Sorry weapons of war don’t belong on our streets or in our homes, including your handguns which can take high capacity magazines readily

Gun rights are exactly like abortion rights.

Don’t like abortions? Don’t have one.

Don’t like guns? Don’t own one.

But you DO NOT get to tell others they cannot have an abortion or a gun.

DP. If some one else had a gun (preferably concealed carry), then the tragedy would be lessened. That is the entire point of 2A

Nope. Crime went up everywhere in the US over the last couple of years (including under Trump). And on a per-capita basis there is actually more gun violence in deep red states than there is in deep blue states. You just hear bigger numbers from blue states because there is a much larger population.

Liberals lost the compassion for Chicagoans contest. I’m liberal and it’s a travesty and embarrassment.

Chicago is a perfect example of why gun laws have to be tightened on a national level. Chicago already has tight gun laws. But all a criminal has to do is go a half hour east into Indiana where a private seller can legally sell them guns at a gun show with no background checks and no questions asked.
