Thanks for the advice. I actually went to a local range before buying the gun. (I had a gun-owning relative with me to show me everything.) It turns out my aim is pretty damn good! 😁😁 I know how to take the gun apart and clean it. I live alone, so I’m not worried about anyone else loading it. I do keep it secure, though. I’m not an “anti-gun nut,” but I’m very much for gun reform. It’s desperately needed. There are many gun owners who believe we need gun reform….despite what gun nuts would have everyone believe. |
Look, I’m not your enemy here. I wanted a gun because I live alone. Also, I think it’s important that more Black people educate themselves about guns and become gun owners. I don’t think guns are for everyone. But, it’s important to look at what’s happening around you. If we don’t educate ourselves, we become like sitting ducks. Again, I’m 100% for gun reform. While I continue to vote for people who will make this happen, I’m making sure I can protect myself if need be. As it is right now, it’ll take decades for us to see any change after we enact common-sense gun reform. People who want gun reform are not anti-gun. |
Sorry weapons of war don’t belong on our streets or in our homes, including your handguns which can take high capacity magazines readily |
Awesome. Sounds like you’re handling it perfectly! I tend to agree on gun reform but I also get the slippery slope argument. What would be in your gun reform bill? |

When you go to the gun ranges in NOVA, you see a fairly diverse crowd. And everyone is super polite. |
I hate to break it to you, but the gun control debate was lost after Sandy Hook. Arguably it was over even before that, when miraculously, the Supreme Court found for the first time in us history that the 2nd Amendment protects an individual's right to keep and bear arms, somehow negating the first clause of the 2nd Amendment. Further consigning our country to more guns and more gun violence, it's almost a foregone conclusion the the Supreme Court is going to strike down NY's law restricting carry of weapons outside the home. This obviously has national ramifications. So, to answer your question - nothing will be done about controlling gun violence in this country. The only possible way the brakes will be put on is if it starts destroying the economy. I'm personally not interested in seeing weapons in restaurants, movie theaters, sports venues, concerts, plays, etc. Or maybe this next generation will get sick of being shot and killed at school and do something. But it's hard to see what when one branch of government is perfectly happy to take all the guardrails off to please their gun nut masters. |
thanks for the contributing to the problem of gun violence in this country. Gullible people watch fox news and think crime is out of control, they rush out and buy a bunch of weapons of war. Some eventually have mental issues or have stress or their kids get bullied and suddenly they either turn the gun on themselves or go out and hurt a lot of people. It's just tragic at this point. |
Thanks! I really appreciate that. I will never claim it’s an easy fix. It most certainly isn’t! Whatever we enact it needs to be enacted nationally because we don’t have borders between states. Individual states’ laws mean nothing. I think that’s the biggest issue, and it’s what frustrates me most when people trot out the “But, Chicago…” talking point. For a start, I’d like to see this enacted nationally: A higher threshold for purchasing a gun, and it should include quality mandatory training (including de-escalation, risk avoidance techniques). We definitely need a higher threshold for open carry. We need to enforce gun confiscation for criminals and those deemed mentally unfit. We need liability for gun sellers and makers. There are other things….and, again, it’ll take a while before things start looking better. But, we can’t sit here and do nothing. |
Your hysteria and hyperbole helps absolutely nothing. I am not contributing to the problem of gun violence in this country. |
….and I sure as hell don’t watch Fox News!^^ |
Less sensitive? Didn’t they invent trigger warnings? |
Americans value guns more than human life. There will never be gun control. Tell your children to prepare for more mass shootings. That’s what Americans value. |
How is it hyperbolic to claim that gullible people buy guns and become a menace to society? Did you think the sandy hook mom bought guns knowing her autistic kid would go on a shooting spree. Nobody think they are a gun nutter, you all think you are “responsible” gun owners and it has done nothing to stop tragedies in this country. |
