Lujan Grisham was offered Interior instead of HHS, and turned it down. Raimondo now a top contender for HHS. Given the pressure Biden is under to take diversity into account, and LG's excellent credentials, not sure what that is about.

Raimondo has no medical or public health background. She is not the choice when we have to roll out a brand new vaccine to 330 million Americans in 60 states in 12 months.

I guess the thinking is that she did an excellent job in her state. But Lujan Grisham definitely has stronger credentials overall, so this is a head scratcher.

What I heard was that Lujan Grisham was offered HHS and turned it down. She’s now going to be the head of the Democratic Governors’ Association. Usually it’s VA that’s the hot potato that no one wants, looks like it’s HHS this time, somewhat understandably.

One of the four big slots (State, DOJ, Defense, Treasury) is going to have to go to a person of color and another is going to have to go to a woman or POC Diversity is important to the Democrats, and even more important to the movers and shakers (Clyburn, Hispanic Caucus, Womans groups)

Blinken is at State. Yellen is at Treasury.

I like Lloyd Austin at Defense. Maybe Sally Yates at DOJ?

Yes, SG with expanded responsibilities. The correct concern was that he lacked the executive experience to run a large bureaucracy like HHS. Why Biden is looking at governors.
