Doug Jones is a lock for AG, based of how much Biden values relationships/loyalty. Doug Jones was the Alabama state Chair for his 1988 run for President and a fundraiser/event organizer for his 2008 run. Bidens known Doug Jones since he was fresh out of law school. Doesn’t get much loyaler than that.

Jones already has backing from leaders of Black Congressional Caucus. They explicitly want someone with civil rights bona fides. The only clear candidate is Jones.

An article this week pointed out closeness to Biden is a problem, given the Hunter investigation. Doesn't want perception of Barr-esque interference due to personal loyalty. Garland was presented as the alternative, apolitical and seen as having total integrity. I still want the fight for Yates, who is the best equipped to dive back into the AG office and fix it. I'd love for Jones or Patrick to head the civil rights division, which will be very prominent in this admin. All of them have great qualities.

No matter who Biden picks, he will be accused of interfering in the investigation. Garland may be perceived as apolitical now, but wait until the right wing noise machine is through with him.
