The Rush to Judge Ilhan Omar

JFC "Getting away with murder" is a figure of speech
I used to say my younger brother got away with murder, and didn't intend it to mean he was a murderer, as in, killed people

OOOOOOH!!!! Another double standard for Democrats! Gotcha!

How about this: STFU about Trump ACTUALLY meaning he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and [his] sic supporters would still support him when you pull this Alt-Vocabulary out of your a**.

This is fairly accurate, though she does say that Trump is much worse. She is also fearful of impeachment because she thinks Pence would be even worse than Trump. But, many Democrats definitely don't want to hear it and are therefore focusing on her not wanting anyone to get away with murder. Another funny thing about this thread is the number of Republicans who are very upset about Obama possibly being called a murderer. If Trump said Obama was a murderer, they same posters would be agreeing with him.

Oh, I'm not upset that she (possibly) called him a murderer. I'm shocked that she did. She cannot stop her mouth from getting herself into trouble for even a minute.

Same here. And, the fact that she is slamming the liberal hero, Obama, is actually a bit humorous. I'm not surprised that she would disparage any Republican president. Or, any Republican at all. When she goes after Obama it seems she doesn't care who she pisses off.

Isn’t this why people loved Trump?

Why is everything about Trump? We're trying to discuss Ilhan Omar, here, not the cheeto

Not the PP you're responding to and have been away from this thread for a while but I would point out that the cheeto is actually relevant to bring into this conversation for context and comparables because the shit he says on a regular basis is far more offensive than what Ilhan Omar said.

Well, she did accurately point out that many policies that Trump practices also occurred with Obama. However, she denies that she criticized Obama and claims the tape proves it? Not the way I hear the tape.

But, the big question is: how will her friends in the Congressional Black Caucus (who, with Clyburn's leadership, saved her bacon on the resolution) react to her criticism of Obama?

every time I read what she has said it is unclear what she is saying and subject to different interpretations -- making me wonder if she is a natural born politician or just not all that articulate.

I contend it is fully intentional on her part. Make provocative, nebulous statements and never answer the media about what she actually said.

It’s honestly the latter. She’s an off the cuff politico, just like Trump. As much as I cringe at her loose language and she’s naccuracies, actual voters related to off-the-cuff remarks. The vast majority of Americans are not calculating when it comes to their speech.

Perhaps more importantly, when she goes after Obama, it clearly communicates that she cares broadly and deeply for humanity and is totally willing to place that concern over tribal loyalty to her party.

She's now deleted the tweet "proving" she did not slam Obama.

This sounds like a 180 from the reality. She’s lived more than most here at DCUM and knows a lot about the world. Her verbal JiuJitsu has made so many things come to the fore. Before you dismiss her, realize she’s breathed life into some moribund discussions and she doesn’t appear ready to disappear.

It's all tribal, no?

whether you're fiercely devoted to our political party or to you religion or culture

tribal

Identify Politics anyway you look at it

There's no winning in this case.

Until the day comes when religion is a thing of the past (and no one will convince me that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict isn't rooted in religious beliefs), most of us will want to find our tribe.

I assume that since Omar is aghast at Jews raising money for their interests that she will cancel her speech at CAIR, an Islamic group with some questionable members, geared to raising money for Muslims' interests - which include the creation of Palestine.

Please distinguish between mostly and always. While tribalism is ubiquitous, it does get transcended: why do you think U.S. political discussions are no longer just for/by WASP guys?

BTW, I was using tribal to highlight the way Democratic Party partisans seldom criticize BHO/HRC/Pelosi/etc. That omertà is inherently dismissive of larger human concerns.
