She didn't call Obama a murderer. Once again, folks have a need to "interpret" her words rather than just address what she actually said. Here is the part of the interview in question:

We can’t be only upset with Trump. … His policies are bad, but many of the people who came before him also had really bad policies. They just were more polished than he was,” Omar says. “And that’s not what we should be looking for anymore. We don’t want anybody to get away with murder because they are polished. We want to recognize the actual policies that are behind the pretty face and the smile.

Please note that there were many presidents prior to Trump who were polished and had nice smiles and she clearly says that she is talking about "many of the people who came before" Trump.

You are correct. She didn’t call anyone a murderer. She said Obama and Bush, and others before them, committed murder. That is vastly different.

Vastly different? Hardly. Anyone who in your own words “committed murder” is defined as a murderer. Pretty simple.

Well, maybe "murder" can have many different definitions and meanings; maybe she was referring to, for example, "murdering" someone's reputation through hate or bigotry. You do not know, and cannot say, what she was actually thinking inside her head.

Funny thing is, when you listen to the recording, which she must assume many won't (and they won't), she said the very thing that the reporter said she did. It seems Pelosi was right when she said that Omar doesn't really understand words. Wait for Obama to be apologizing to her next week.

"Exhibit A of how reporters distort words. I’m an Obama fan! I was saying how Trump is different from Obama, and why we should focus on policy not politics.
This is why I always tape my interviews. ? https://soundcloud.com/ilhanomar/obama2 …"

Yes. As Pelosi said, "she has a different experience in the use of words."
LOL! How long has she lived in the US?

Not what she said either. It is telling that Omar's detractors consistently mischaracterize what she said. One would think that if she actually said terrible things, they could be quoted and not have to be misleadingly paraphrased. But as it is, posters like you need to take a bit of "artistic license" in order to create the drama you seek.

I did not mischaracterize it. That's what you accuse people of doing if they don't use her exact words, but words that mean the same exact thing. So here's the quote:

“We can’t be only upset with Trump. … His policies are bad, but many of the people who came before him also had really bad policies. They just were more polished than he was,” Omar says. “And that’s not what we should be looking for anymore. We don’t want anybody to get away with murder because they are polished. We want to recognize the actual policies that are behind the pretty face and the smile.”

Are you trying to claim that she didn't say that presidents before Trump murdered?

No, she did not say that presidents before Trump murdered. She said that "We don't want anybody to get away with murder". That is a general statement to apples to the future as well as the past. Her point is that we should look at actual policies, not the polish and pretty face. Do you want anyone to get away with murder?

Jeff, Did you get a certificate as a special interpreter of magical mystery meanings of words. Alt-Vocab?

From Politico: Omar says the 'hope and change' offered by Barack Obama was a mirage. Recalling the caging of kids at thenU.S.-Mexico border and the 'droning of countries around the world on Obama's watch, she argues rhat the Democrstic president operatws within the same fundamentally beoken framework of his Republican successor.

"We can't only be upset with Trump...his policies are bad but many of the people who came before him...blah, blah blah."

Too much reality for the Democratic Party. That’s why they’re working to get rid of her.

Hey, Ilhan is just keeping it real. She's right. The same things have been happening under Dem and Repub presidents, we're only holding Trump accountable because he's not polished or pretty. I respect that she refuses to be a hypocrite on this, but I don't think Democrats will.

I actually have no problem with what she says there. I will say that if you listen to the audio she didn't say "mirage". In the audio it goes more like, "I will talk about family separation or the caging of kids and people will say 'this was Obama' or I will talk about the droning of countries around the world and people will say 'that was Obama'. All of that is very true. But what it happening now is very different." She doesn't say anything about a "fundamentally broken framework".

There are two issues here:

1) Did Omar accurately point to policies of Obama that are similar to things for which Trump is criticized? Yes, and I agree with her.

2) Did she call Obama a murderer? No. Though it is true that Obama was responsible for ex-judicial killings of American citizens.

This is fairly accurate, though she does say that Trump is much worse. She is also fearful of impeachment because she thinks Pence would be even worse than Trump. But, many Democrats definitely don't want to hear it and are therefore focusing on her not wanting anyone to get away with murder. Another funny thing about this thread is the number of Republicans who are very upset about Obama possibly being called a murderer. If Trump said Obama was a murderer, they same posters would be agreeing with him.

Oh, I'm not upset that she (possibly) called him a murderer. I'm shocked that she did. She cannot stop her mouth from getting herself into trouble for even a minute.

I am genuinely concerned someone on the foreign policy committee is dancing around having called our presidents murderers and the drone program operators murderers.

Yet another WTH moment in a ridiculous week of ALT-Vocabulary.

Same here. And, the fact that she is slamming the liberal hero, Obama, is actually a bit humorous. I'm not surprised that she would disparage any Republican president. Or, any Republican at all. When she goes after Obama it seems she doesn't care who she pisses off.
