I don't understand why people talk about addiction as if the addicts aren't people anymore. The term junkie is derogatory, and assumes that person has no worth. There is still a human spirit under the addiction. |
Agree! And I don't get comparing a man who found himself addicted to prescription pain medications, who recognized the addiction and was actively seeking help, to a junkie on the street who when I think of that word is someone that lies, steals, commits crimes and acts in very immoral ways to sustain their addiction, There is no comparison in my opinion. |
Thank you -- I listened and cried like a baby. Thank you and soar on, Prince. |
I think it was probably a quality of life thing for him. We don't know the extent of his health issues but I really think they were significant and not something that the medical community could have adequately fixed for him. So instead of spending his last days doing as his doctors said. Prince partied like it was 1999... Hey, he warned us it would be like that. "If you didn't come to party, don't bother knockin' on my door". RIP. |
+1. He was a genius. I don't care at all about the drugs. |
+1,000,000. Being a genius is painful and extracts a high price. The mediocre smuggles clutching their pearls wouldn't know anything about it. |
Um, Prince got addicted to drugs because he was in *physical* pain. He was taking pain killers because his body literally hurt. The man was not a addict when his body was healthy. This is not about his genius being too painful for him to bear. He would laugh at that idea. Sorry. |
OMG, that was amazing. He was a f'ing genius. I am sooooo sorry I never got to see him live. As for everyone talking about addiction & addicts - I can guarantee you that not a single person alive aspires to addiction. And I'd also bet everything I have that any addict would rather be clean. I don't know if he was addicted or not. I don't care one way or the other except to feel incredible compassion for him and the pain (mental, physical, whatever) that he must have been in. |
+100 He was a one of a kind. |
It was probably hard to feel euphoric at his age (without drugs) after all the success he had, especially after a long MN winter. I wonder if he had seasonal affective disorder? The sad thing is his demise was probably a result of his fame and performances for the fans doing the splits. I don't get why people close to him didn't know or do anything about it until it was too late, unless he was avoiding getting treatment for whatever reason. |
He used his body to make his art. How do you think he damaged it enough to need painkillers? |
I love the fact that he worked with and promoted the careers of so many female musicians. |
You must be a young whipper snapper grasshopper. But all those years of jumping around in his heels probably had something to do with it. The dude needed hip replacement surgery which means that he was having a hard time getting around w/o pain killers. And there were probably other physical issues that we don't know about. Maybe never will. |
Are you kidding? If he was addicted to pain medication it was a result of a physical ailment this man wasn't partying hard and using drugs. Do you know anything about Prince, a highly religious Jehovah's Witness. There were songs from his early career, darling Nikki etc. that he wouldn't even perform anymore. Dude was not out drinking and drugging. |
I don't think cocaine is a pain med. |
