why so much blah blah blah he was a drug addict who killed himself like any other junkie on the street wasted talent-couldn't get himself clean and sadly like most drug addicts dead of the old "accidental" overdose
No, he was not a drug addict like a junkie on the street. You have the right to your own opinion but if that's truly how you feel I don't understand why you are reading and responding to a 29 page thread on DCUM of people posting their love and affection of Prince and his music and his talent. I mean, it's your time to spend how you see fit but I just don't see the point. :shrugs" To each his own, I guess.
I don't understand why people talk about addiction as if the addicts aren't people anymore. The term junkie is derogatory, and assumes that person has no worth. There is still a human spirit under the addiction.
Agree! And I don't get comparing a man who found himself addicted to prescription pain medications, who recognized the addiction and was actively seeking help, to a junkie on the street who when I think of that word is someone that lies, steals, commits crimes and acts in very immoral ways to sustain their addiction, There is no comparison in my opinion.
+1. He was a genius. I don't care at all about the drugs.
+1,000,000. Being a genius is painful and extracts a high price. The mediocre smuggles clutching their pearls wouldn't know anything about it.
Um, Prince got addicted to drugs because he was in *physical* pain. He was taking pain killers because his body literally hurt. The man was not a addict when his body was healthy. This is not about his genius being too painful for him to bear. He would laugh at that idea. Sorry.
He used his body to make his art. How do you think he damaged it enough to need painkillers?
You must be a young whipper snapper grasshopper. But all those years of jumping around in his heels probably had something to do with it. The dude needed hip replacement surgery which means that he was having a hard time getting around w/o pain killers. And there were probably other physical issues that we don't know about. Maybe never will.
