No? Then don't expect federal workers to make the same sacrifice to satisfy your politics.

I'm a fed. Everyone in my office thinks the Dems should stand firm. I don't believe you're a fed.

sounds like we need to balance the feds in that they reflect the voting makeup of the country

Our standards are much higher than that. Most of us have PhDs. You're not going to find many qualified Republicans to hire.

Most feds have PhDs? Sure.

In my office they do. Agency-wide, the professional staff are about 60-70% PhDs and 15-20% Masters degrees.

Why is the federal govt so left wing this is part of the problem it doesn't reflect america and should be reshaped

My agency hasn’t released shutdown plans yet (have any?). My position has always been non-essential but I wonder if there is a chance the admin makes everyone essential just to make us work without pay.

See the response at 14:00, above you.

There’s a reason the president loves the uneducated.

And what percentage of your agency is "professional staff?"

Do you want highly educated and competent federal workers or ones that reflect the abilities of the American people?

You should be asking why educated voters lean Democratic.

If most Feds don’t have PhDs and you still couldn’t find a job there what does it say about you?

Why do you think I couldn't get a job as a fed? For that matter, why do you think I would *want* a job as a fed? I have a job that I like.

If this post is indicative of the reasoning levels of federal workers, perhaps a shutdown would be for the best.

That’s what happened last time. Happens again and Schumer is done.

Schumer being ousted is the only positive thing I can think of that would come from the Dems caving again.

I’m not particularly a fan of his but if that happens it seems likely it’s AOC and moves the party further out of power to the left (which I do care about)

You have a statistic on that? My agency is certainly not.

The “government” is not left wing. Is it going to be a nihilistic as MAGA? Of course not - if you work for the government you want to see your programs succeed and believe that the government can do good. One party has been so anti government and anti government worker lately that most government workers probably have been voting one way recently because the other side is crazypants for your mission. And you are always free to apply for a government job and show them how to do it.

But as a long time Fed, I’ll let you in on the actual secret. Federal level issues are complex and have lots of parts. If a perfect outcome was easy, it would already be done. Feds tend to hate changes of administrations because normally what happens is that the candidate campaigned on an issue and throwing rocks at something and promising that they will make it better. Then they get into office and see all the complexities and start to notice that the way the previous guy did it wasn’t evil or malicious, but pretty close to the least bad option on how to address the issue. Normally it takes about a year to get to that point and your program has been in limbo instead of moving forward. Add in Congress being unable to fund a budget every year, and it’s a mess. Having all branches of the government actually function should be your goal. I know in my line of work the votes used to be way more split because the administrations were generally functional even if they had some odd priorities.

About 65%. Some staff in administrative and support positions have graduate degrees, too (including my secretary), but I'm sure the breakdown isn't nearly as high.

This post is so stupid it makes my head hurt. And to think the PP's vote counts the same as mine, and other sentient PPs.

I think it takes a special kind of person to make less than they are worth in service to mankind. I think that equates to leaning left.

Yeah, none of this is true. If you are really claiming this, please identify the agency.

Our agency is now that high because they riffed most of the people who aren't scientists.
