Democrats DID acquiesce to all of this. They did nothing while thousands of federal workers were fired -- and that is why they are picking this pointless fight now over the clean CR, and that is why I object.

Ask yourself if Mitch McConnell would have stood by helplessly and said, we're out of the majority, nothing we can do, had this happened when Rs were in the minority. No. They would have come up with every creative legislative tool to jam up the works - stalling nominees, blue slips, filibusters, whatever. But Ds were steamrolled and feel bad about that now, so we are stuck with this performative nonsense.

It's clear that you are casting about for reasons to argue in your own personal interest - that there be no shutdown. As I said, that's understandable, though not compelling to anyone who is concerned with more than their own pocketbook.

And to be clear, "They didn't fight last time, so they shouldn't do so now" is not compelling.

What is the strategy here? At what point do you think the Republicans are going to fold and bring a bill to the floor that Democrats will support? They don't care if it gets shut down because they can and will make it the Dems fault in the public eye. They are so, so much better at that then the Dems are. I just don't see the endgame here. (and p.s., I'm not a fed)

Obviously. Because all the feds understand how important it is to stand up to Trump.

And the Republicans have the House, Senate, and Presidency. It is obvious that the shutdown will be their fault.

Not “obviously.” Our family has already been devastatingly affected by this administration and my comment wasn’t that Dems shouldn’t stand up to the administration but arguing that this isn’t the only way. Hanging their hat on the health care pieces is stupid. I’m sorry but the pain needs to be felt by those who support the administration to change their minds. If the government is shutting down we need to get something meaningful out of it.

Basically you're saying you don't care about anyone else. You said you're a fed, and you obviously don't care about health care. So what do you care about? Sad your government contracting gig ended?

This isn't a politics board. Please keep your room-temperature IQ, glib snark to yourself.

All I want to know the likelihood of any shutdown as the situation changes.

Are there any events that would increase or decrease the likelihood? That's it. That's all this thread should be about.

It all comes down to whether the Democrats want to bend over again. It would be the end of Schumer, so he won't go along with it. Other Democrats might.

If other Dems split and sign the CR, wouldn’t it most likely be with Schumer’s blessing?

That’s what happened last time. Happens again and Schumer is done.

Schumer being ousted is the only positive thing I can think of that would come from the Dems caving again.

I think Dems need to cave and focus on winning elections. There is no negotiating with Trump and his minions and they don’t play by the normal rules. I do think feds will lose more jobs and will not get back pay if the government shuts down. There have been so many things we have said Trump can’t do then he does and the Supreme Court backs him.

No matter if Dems did everything MAGA wants to shut down to fire masses of employees. It's their Easy Button.

Betting market is putting odds of shutdown at 81% right now. That is pretty high.

No? Then don't expect federal workers to make the same sacrifice to satisfy your politics.

I'm a fed. Everyone in my office thinks the Dems should stand firm. I don't believe you're a fed.

sounds like we need to balance the feds in that they reflect the voting makeup of the country

Our standards are much higher than that. Most of us have PhDs. You're not going to find many qualified Republicans to hire.

Most feds have PhDs? Sure.

I'm fine with shutting it down. Dems should not cave. I'm a fed that is retiring at the end of the month on the DRP. My spouse is still employed with the govt.

I'm at the point that people need to hurt to understand what we're dealing with, that is, an mafiosa style of government. You gain nothing by negotiating with them.

They were wrong at the last shutdown. The only people making money off this are the platforms.

Schumer needs to be done. He’s no Nancy Pelosi.

If most Feds don’t have PhDs and you still couldn’t find a job there what does it say about you?
