School board reckoning?

The people who are going to run are the crazy right-wing activists who have orchestrated this whole campaign of hate against the current school board. And they will be protected when they serve because normal people (and Democrats, in general) don’t manufacture rage campaigns that involve death threats and made up controversies like the book banning issue that resulted in thousands of hateful emails barraging our current community members who serve.

The whole point is intended to drive regular people out of office.

The current SB members seem like anything but regular people, but do go on.

Agrred - that driving regular people out happened some time ago.

Someone tries to educate you in white fragility and you respond with a display of it.

AKA the 2021 VA gubernatorial race.

I love it when the folks getting rich off DEI contracts find out the gravy train may be ending.

The next time FCPS hires Ibram X. Kendi they REALLY need to do it for the parents. They are the ones who most need to hear and internalize his teachings.

Doubt the parents would drink the Kool-Aid.

Based on this thread, lots of parents are drinking the right wing talking points Kool Aid.

Keep insulting parents. It’s been working out so well for you lately at the polls.

Still don't get it, do you?

Nope I don’t. Why would I or anyone volunteer for it when raging parents have lost their collective minds? There’s been yelling, threats. Enlighten me oh wise one….

You obviously have not observed how the SB members treat parents who express opinions contrary to theirs. They don't even listen to the speakers.

Have you ever had someone not listen to you when you are expressing your thoughts? How does that make you feel?

You have a reading comprehension issue. I’m not debating if this SB is any good. I’m asking who in their right mind will volunteer to do the job in 2023.

If the SB acted normally and respectfully, they would not be attacked by parents. That simple.

Example: when the woman read that book out loud and it was so offensive, Pekarsky could have said. Please stop. We will take action on this, She obviously found the book offensive, but, instead of showing shock at the book, she attacked the parent.

So you are saying it’s ok to threaten people?

True-insulting people only works for Republicans in the pools.

They could repair a lot of the damage they've done with parents if they started to pay more attention to facilities, but they never do, and Jeff Platenberg has already signaled that the next Capital Improvement Program will be another big nothingburger.

These people, whether at Gatehouse or on the School Board. can't be relieved of their responsibilities soon enough.

How, I’m sure they could upgrade your school and make you happy, but that means not upgrading another school

Or maybe not expanding a school to 3000 seats when a nearby school is under-enrolled, or only spending $100M on a school renovation rather than $140M...

I am *so* excited for the FCHS renovation - having haters say it is undeserved and poor kids should make do with less makes it even more satisfying. My kids got an amazing education and terrific community there, my house was cheap and a great commute into the city, and now my property value will go up with the renovation just as I am getting ready to retire and move.

Spending over $140M to renovate FCHS or any other single school when they spent less than a fraction of that on prior “renovations” is BS. And then they blame others for their having such a long renovation cycle.

Maybe you think there is no limit on how much should get spent on schools with more poor kids but they need to spread out the money more widely. Both Arlington and Loudoun put FCPS to shame when it comes to maintaining their facilities.
