School board reckoning?

I would love a nice slate of Moderates by either party. I am sick of the far right and the far left but I can't have nice things.

Very cringe because you think you just voted out the school board when in fact you voted for governor.

They did vote out the state board of education. I’m guessing equity won’t be a priority for the incoming board.

This. This is why I voted Youngkin. Whatever it takes to get Atif Qarni to stop imposing new teacher training mandates about equity that don’t do a damn thing to help my kid learn the 3 R’s, science, and non-victim-based social studies.

Exactly. And if the School Board members are paying any attention they’ll start focusing on their basic responsibilities again and stop with all their stupid nonsense like a new “social justice” Academy at failing Lewis HS.

You either lack reading comprehension or do not understand how the world works. Where did I say that the school board was voted out? Do you think the school board's bosses (the state level and national level dems.) will risk losing the next election once they figure out that what's costing them votes are the nonsense that the school board is focusing on? After the TJ fiasco, idiots like Qarni need to go. The message is clear. Tone down your sh*t or lose the elections. If the school board continues with their nonsense, the state will step in now to correct the problem where previously Qarni was just their lapdog.

I voted dem, BTW.. the entire ticket, because I hate Trump more than I hate the dems regardless of the school board clowns and their actions. I am at a social and economic level where I am not affected by which party runs the country. Economy does well, my income and my stock portfolio soars. Economy in the dumps, I pick up cheap stocks/real estate. Win-Win. The democratic agenda costs me more since they want to tax me and disadvantage my kids (I'm not White). I continue to do y'all a favor because of Trump but this can't go on forever. It's a 2-way street.

The state DoE, however, may tread a bit more cautiously.

I believe Youngkin plans to change leadership at the DoE.

I agree that in Fairfax County the SB doesn't need to be too concerned. I wish it would send FCDC a lesson to pick better candidates next time, but I don't see how that's going to happen.

I want the schools to focus on teaching kids. I don't need the schools to be worried about all things equity. I need them to teach grammar, spelling, science, history, math, and other core subjects. I don't want time devoted to my kids social well being or questions about his thoughts on racism or social justice issues. Focus on academics and stop worrying about how comfortable he is discussing race.

I don't want Trump and his far right supporters so I vote democrat but that doesn't mean that I want Sanders and his bunch either. I want schools to focus on teaching kids and not worried about being the base platform for everything equal. We cannot legislate equity in schools, it doesn't work that way. Title I schools have different issues that have to be addressed to improve the kids access to education and close the gaps. Changing the standards for kids at not Title 1 schools hurts those kids and does nothing to help the kids at the Title I schools.

x 1,000,000.

Though Megan is my SB member and Chap is my state senator, so I do have a few nice things.

The Virginia GOP proved that it can whip up racist white enthusiasm, and win at the ballot box, without Donald Trump.

I am not going to lie, I am fine with the DoE seeing some change. The plans for changing math are ridiculous.

I guess if he’s spending months banning something that doesn’t exist, he can’t screw up the rest of the state.

Pp. that was my point but I was trying to be subtle about it

I would have assumed conservative Christians would be supportive of such things considering the importance of social justice in the teachings of Jesus.

Or maybe it is that the Dems are not doing a good job speaking to Moderates and Independents. The far right base of the GOP has always been active. The Dems need to be speaking to the Independents and Moderates, the Progressive agenda does not work for the Independents and Moderates. Virginia is Purple, knock off the Progressive agenda if people want to the Dems to win. NoVA does not represent the feelings and attitudes of most of the country.

No way.

At the last work session, Megan McLaughlin announced she wanted to pull all homeschooled kids away from their parents (if they were being homeschooled for religious purposes) and question the kids to ensure the children held the same belief as the parents.

Fcps is ultra liberal and there is no turning back.

Important discovery for them. A smiling man in a fleece vest makes for better optics.

yes, but McAuliffe lost ground - I think Northam had 70% in FC. Whether it is fair or not, parents of all political persuasions (with 20/20 hindsight of course) were dissatisfied with FCPS in some regard - whether it was the complete and embarrassing failure of implementing on-line learning back in March 2019, the failure to open schools earlier in AUG 2020 to allow kids to engage with teachers before going virtual when Delta variant arrived, the very strict rules about social distancing/quarantine/masking even for HS kids who were vaccinated, the failure to acknowledge that kids were participating in sports/pods and bars/restaurants open but still not in school, the comparison to private schools - and of course the cultural issues surrounding curriculum.

It will be interesting to see if campaigns focus on COVID failures or the culture wars issues.
