The whole opt in and lack of desire to go there shows why it should be a magnet school....

Thats not true. They should have opened it when renovated with set boundaries and sports. Most kids deciding against it this year did it due to sports.

Agree. Since they’ve already opened in a half ass manner, perhaps the next few years can be opt in only until they give proper notice to communities and have time to get the proper programming and sports options in place. This would allow ppl who want to go there to go, but also allow time for them to get their act together.

With the upcoming middle school changes as well, it makes sense to delay the entire process a few years. Get all their ducks in order, have proper LOCAL research, polls and maps. Have committees from every school giving community feedback. Please FCPS, stop delegating this task to a bunch of 20 year boys from NYC who have no clue about anything outside of placing prompts into ChatGPT for ideas.

There’s still time for Reid and the school board to correct course and fix this disaster.

Yeah, scenario 1 has rio moving to Franklin and then going to Skyview

Who would do better? I agree that this is a mess, but I hear so many biased accounts on here saying their perspective is clearly the only reasonable, objective one. I don't know that going local would be a better bet, but maybe someone else here does have a good, specific suggestion? I feel like specific recommendations may be taken seriously by Reid and the board. It's too late now, I would think, but if boundaries are going to be reviewed every five years...

It all seems a bit too convenient. Reid and Lady wanted a magnet school but the School Board said no, that Skyview should be a traditional neighborhood school. But if they only propose to set the HS boundaries by also upending a bunch of ES and MS boundaries, and come up with ridiculous proposals, people will complain and say they should just make Skyview an opt-in school indefinitely - which will essentially give Reid and Lady what they wanted. It could well be incompetence by design.

Oh no, that's a dumb idea. Just doubling down on idiocy.
Set logical boundaries for a traditional HS. No more opting in or opting out.

Nope, typed it that way on purpose!

What are the other elementary school changes?

Va Run Neighborhood group is livid that they would consider sending kids out of the neighborhood school, for no actual purpose or reason. To these out of state consultants, they are just moving around numbers on a board.

This is one of the real mysteries of the proposals, because there is no logical explanation for it.

Yes, only one of them. Which is ridiculous. All scenarios should have them going to Skyview.

Logical would mean moving Franklin Farm to Skyview.

Weaponized incompetence.

Logical would mean moving Franklin Farm to Skyview.

Franklin Farm homeowners made a website, rootedinoakton.com, even though their homes are in Herndon. Skyview is also in Herndon and is less than half the distance as Oakton. If they are rooted in anything, it is Herndon, hence their addresses. Making a website and raising pitchforks shouldn't cause illogical disruptions to more logical boundary maps just to appease these people. Perhaps it is time for them to put down their pitchforks and plant some new roots closer to home.

They should have e named school Oak Hill. Is RIO the reason they didn't? We're they sending a message? It was a popular choice, but did not make the cut for a vote. Why?

Have any school board members come out for or against RIO?

Anonymous wrote:FCPS has screwed this up royally. They should have waited a year to open Skyview. Got some major renovations done and released the boundaries a year and a half before the school opens with 1 single plan. Putting different scenarios out there only encourages people to complain more and hope they get what they want. By releasing them right away and opening the school later they would have had a much longer runway for people to accept the changes and the controversy would have died down. Instead they are trying to open a new school, without the building being ready, all the while arguing about what kids will eventually be placed there. Literally, the worst possible way to open a school.

Btw, is the latest proposal about moving everyone under Fox Mill Elementary School into Skyview?
