Can't be more openly racist that how Asians are being treated at TJ. And that's the Democrats - which is sad to see as someone who can't stand the anti abortion, pro gun policies of the Republicans. As an Asian, it seems like I am better off trying to reform the Republican party than be part of he Democratic party which is attacking me without even hiding their intentions. Very sad |
Another liberal lie. |
You're not fighting for anyone but yourself. Stop fooling people with those empty words. On the other hand, we'll definitely fight you white liberals in the upcoming elections. See you then. |
*Team white supremacy. |
Goodness how that font can get really tiny. |
I don't think that too many Asian families would have a problem with admitting more Black and Hispanic students - assuming that it was due to doing a better job of identifying and enticing talented URMs. On the other hand, if it's simply because the school system suddenly decides to play with the numbers because there are "too many Asians," a lot of people would have a problem with that. You don't have to be Asian for that to bother you. |
Well how do you make things fair and avoid the gaslighting, hate, and discrimination the Black and Brown people have been suffering? I didn’t hear any Asians complaining about Black and brown people not being treated fair when it came TJ selection before they thought less of them would be selected. |
Well, start by not calling the majority Asian student body toxic and insinuating that they cheated to get in. "Pay to Play" is a racist dog whistle. The racism toward Asians during this process has also been atrocious. The school board and education officials should know better than to say those things. It normalizes racism toward Asians. They deserve the flak that they got. |
Here's a couple of serious questions, though... TJ's environment has ALWAYS been problematic with respect to an unhealthy focus on college admissions and comparison between students. That toxicity has existed within TJ's community LONG before TJ became a majority- or even plurality-Asian school. How do we talk about solving that serious problem - which is a direct function of a flawed admissions process - without it turning into a referendum on Asian students and families? There isn't anyone reasonable or important who has suggested that Asian families "cheated" in order to get in. There is anecdotal evidence from TJ students that suggests that there were test-prep companies who had inappropriate (but not illegal, so for heaven's sake stop with the calls for an investigation) access to exam materials that they then used to extract millions of dollars from families in order to enhance the Admissions' Office's perception of their children's abilities. It's not cheating to do this, but the existence and success of these very expensive prep companies is evidence of a deeply flawed admissions process that allowed parental resources to have a significant and direct impact on admissions outcomes. That's not a reason to go after those families or those companies, but it absolutely IS a reason to go after the admissions process that allowed for it. FCPS unsuccessfully went after it in 2001 when the school was overwhelmingly white, and they went after it again here with a more favorable school board. The inartful manner in which the School Board messaged their work on this issue doesn't make the work any less important or valid. |
You have a strange definition of cheating. Just because it isn't illegal doesn't make it not cheating. |
Are there really a lot of brown and black kids in science olympiad with straight A's in honor courses and advanced math not getting into TJ? |
Why do we care if they're in Science Olympiad? |
Racism has kept Black and brown kids out of things like Olympiad. Racism in FCPS has always existed and these groups who are now outraged by what’s going on at TJ never had no problem with it. Everything was all good as long as they felt favored by white mommy and white daddy. |
Asian dominated schools are frequently labeled as toxic, and Asians themselves are frequently accused of being cheaters. Stuyvesant and Lowell are both accused of being toxic. Wootton and Centennial get labeled as toxic too. It's a stereotype that Asians are toxic when a school has too many of them. Racists jump on that and having people in charge call TJ toxic is further validation for their stereotypes. "Pay to Play" was uttered by Brabrand. It's a pejorative that suggests that people cheat. Qarni labeled it "performance enhancing drugs" which are often illegal and also elicits the idea of cheating. Test prep and tutoring is very common in the Asian community and culture, as cram classes and tutoring is a part of life in many Asian countries. it doesn't take much effort to link the idea that Asians cheat, and racists are all over that. Even when Asians aren't taking cram classes they often are spending more time on average on homework, and somehow that often gets lumped in as inappropriate too. Internet trolls are one thing, but school officials should never be denigrating students of their own school, let alone in a way that can be construed as racist. By giving it a pass or waving it off you're essentially saying it's ok for school officials to perpetuate the idea that Asians are toxic cheaters to racists. |
lol this is how insane the liberals are. that was a good laugh though. |
