The need to play club reflects the reality of how competitive and popular lax has become. It’s not that the club coaches will get you into a college. To get better you need to play against the best competition, otherwise you’re in for a shock if/when you get to college. You also get better by having more game experience year round, developing muscle memory for game situations and honing the specific skills for your position. Then you go to college camps or showcase tournaments and coaches notice you. With the recruiting rules having changed, the high school coaches will Now have time to know their players and be able to make recommendations before commitment time.
The downside to the club system is that you may burn out physically or emotionally, develop chronic overuse injuries (which are being seen in younger athletes now), and pass up the experience and physical benefits of playing other sports. The right balance is very hard to find and varies from kid to kid. But some club experience is unfortunately likely necessary for every player who really wants to improve and play in college. |
Aaron Byrd did not PG. |
Shane Corcoran played 2 years at Landon. Aaron Byrd did not PG. Get your facts straight. |
The player you so confidently state was St. Alban's best player was a second line midfielder his freshman year. He may have had the most potential on the team but he was not the best player. |
It's a Bullis lacrosse thread but AB absolutely played PG. He brought it up almost every time and was given the green light to shoot every time and he did almost every time. The team stunk and the school should never have given him a full ride just because he rode the bench at DM. And the Landon football team is now a joke. I don't think they'd have 25 kids try out if not for the 10-15 recruit/transfers brought in. They'd be better off having 2 soccer teams in the fall than 1 football team full of recruits. Same goes for Bullis and soon the other IAC's will have that same problem. Prep didn't have enough tryouts to field a JV and varsity and now needs kids playing for both teams to have a full roster. If someone was aggressive enough, they could end football entirely and not miss a beat. |
The point previously made was that Aaron Byrd was a post grad student, which is blatantly false and is what I attempted to point out. |
| Did Coach B return as math teacher? Is he actually back on campus this year? |
| Ha. Too many abbreviations. |

Bellistri.
This is the "Bullis lacrosse situation" thread after all. |
The poster did not say he was the best player. That is a silly argument to be drawn into when there are so many rolls on a team. I was a parent of a kid on the team that year. He was a first line middie, and they often isolated him to dodge and score. STA played a slow-down game because they (smartly) realized that they could not run with the rest of the IAC. That was the year STA's field was under construction and the lacrosse team practiced on the field in front of the runway at National Airport. Trust me, I watched the entire season, every game. The kid was first line, the best midfielder. Go ahead and debate who was the best player on the team--not worth key strokes. Landon did not recruit him, in any event. He decided to leave the school, while his older brother was still there. The older brother was the Gatorade soccer player of the year as a senior, too. Those are all facts. Look them up... |
| For f### sake, who cares? |
Football is having problems fielding teams everywhere. Not sure why your so worked up about it for the IAC. http://www.wvtf.org/post/declining-numbers-end-some-high-school-football-programs http://www.ultimaterecruit.com/757football/game-over-three-va-hs-football-programs-call-it-quits/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/highschools/a-year-after-losing-its-team-this-maryland-high-school-is-bringing-football-back/2018/08/29/53a7193e-ab9a-11e8-b1da-ff7faa680710_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.f2bf43f4c012 |
Good Counsel and STJCHS don't have 3 teams anymore, just JV and Varsity. |
Yes he is back and teaching at school. |
