Beauvoir Scandal?

Our school does Fed and State background checks, fingerprinting, and conducts extensive reference checks for all staff, not just teachers. Also, all staff are required to take a course on keeping children safe from sexual abuse, and how to recognize signs of potential abuse. We have been doing this for years. Also, we are required to do this for insurance purposes. I'm sure that most independent schools have similar requirements and standards. Never hurts to ask though.

I know for a fact this is true. The pictures were found on a camera that was actually the school's property, he left the pictures on the memory card, card still in the camera. There had been an inkling that something was going on with this particular teacher but they were looking for cause to suspend or fire and then this situation came to light. Then they were trying to keep everything neat and tidy, hush hush. It is a terrible shame for those young children.

Exactly how do you know that "there was an inkling something was wrong with this teacher"?

To Poster 20:55 your post is not new. Anyone who has read the entire thread already knew this information. I think folks just like seeing this tthread at the top of the list. Let it GO With a smile. Not flaming you but come on I am positve we will all hear the latest news when it becomes available. Until that time PLEASE LET IT GO

You are right I didn't read the entire thread, I am sorry that this information wasn't anything new to fellower posters. As for how I know, from a teacher at the school, they were many facts that came to light in the following weeks. Let it go with a smile sure, as long as the children that have victimized have that same opportunity. I guess I will let it go

The thread isn't exciting, it is sad, I don't think anyone like seeing the thread. I think most parents or fellow teachers find this behavior alarming, upseting, and disgusting.

I don't see how they've tried to hush things up when they've been sending letters out about what's been going on to everyone under the sun. My DC graduated from Beauvoir years ago and I was informed of the situation. Plus they are cooperating with authorities which is what matters. The school has no obligation to fulfill the public's need for gossip.

I agree wholeheartedly. Add to that, this is an investigation, and investigations are painfully slow. The school cannot report more if there is not more known.

Adding to this point, the school may not know more. The investigation is now in the hands of the authorities. It may appear "slow" to an outsider, but that's because by definition one would not be privy to the insider information relating to the investigation. By law, and as a matter of common sense, the authorities cannot publicize every step in the investigatory process. It is also good to hear that, if the silence is any indication, the authorities are being very careful and methodical. The fact that they are not rushing to judgement, or proclaiming on DCUM guilt or innocence, is a welcome respite from so much on this thread.

I have been reading this thread for weeks. I have no connection to the school and have no intention of applying. I didn't even know about the scandal until Jeff wrote an article.

But, am I sorry, this school really f'uped by confronting the teacher, putting him on notice of the allegations, and then letting him go. Why didn't they notify authorities first? Let's just admit they screwed up.

And, if the teacher is guilty and has fled the country, think of all the children he may (but may not) be abusing in other countries where it is much easier to exploit children.

This is very sad, but I felt the need to reply to the posters that think the school did no wrong.

Who is saying that he fled the country? I haven't heard that anywhere and I highly doubt it.

The U.S. Attorney's Office is involved, according to a very comforting letter received by Beauvoir families the other day. That means federal prosecutors and FBI agents. The Feds, Big Brother, G-Men. Assuming they were brought into the picture on time, they would be able to stop him from leaving US soil. If he did manage to flee the country, they would know. If he did what people suggest he did, they're looking for him wherever he may be, and eventually, they'll get him.

I know nothing about the investigation of this case outside of what has been reported publicly. That caveat said, the following is a civics lesson for those who may be unaware: The U.S. Attorney's Office has investigatory and prosecutorial authority over all D.C. cases because D.C. is not a state with its own judicial system. The fact that they are involved does not necessarily mean any federal investigatory agencies are involved. They could be, I certainly don't know. But the D.C. U.S. Attorney's Office handles all MPD cases.
