I think Portia’s young guy is Tom Hollander’s character’s nephew. And yes, the way they swept Tanya and Portia up and solved all their problems seems suspect. I was on the fence though because sometimes groups of older gay men can be that way— just out to make friends and have a great time. And I could see them being drawn to Tanya because of how she looks and how emotional she is. I’d actually be a little surprised if the show portrayed the gay men in this season as con men because it’s not like Armand got a generous edit last season either. |
Well Gen Z fashion is hideous and really every fashion now is equally hideous. |
I think she didn't ask him because she had just made that speech about how "fine" they are when she is clearly enormously insecure about her marriage. She's so triumphant about how fake Cameron and Daphne are, but the truth is that she wants that kind of affection with Ethan, just without the cheating. And she and Ethan haven't had sex once on this vacation and if Ethan's previous little speech is evidence, they haven't had frequent sex in awhile. She has to be wondering where Ethan is getting his sexual needs met. And whoever said that waverunner scene was gay AF, well, how about Ethan and Cameron in bed. What was that? I can't quite make out the gays and Tanya storyline. It feels really scammy, but what's the angle? Maybe it sets up a blowup with Greg when he returns. I am not going to dog on Portia, because honestly, I would have done exactly what she did. Except I think Jack is nasty and I wouldn't have picked him over Albie. But in my 20's I was anything but direct and would have been a duplicitous little B instead of being direct. Albie and Lucia are icky and I feel bad for him. His dad will not be able to keep his mouth shut and that's just going to make it all the worse. I don't really understand where things are going with Mia and Lucia. Lucia's repentance seemed awfully sudden, as did Mia's reversal. I am hugely intrigued by Valentina. Her behavior is so...off. She's the manager, but every request a guest has made is flatly rebuffed. And then she doesn't care. Or maybe it's just Dominic? And then she buys jewelry for Isabella (I think that's her name) after one conversation which was almost totally focused on work. And then physically forces the gift on her? |
I think it's the other way round. He will be desperate for Albie not to know. If Lucia can make Albie catch feelings for her, she can then blackmail Dominic for keeping her mouth shut about their involvement. |
DP but I'd kind of enjoy it if went this way because probably the only characters I'm "rooting" for are Lucia and Mia to get some cash so they can stop living how they are living. I very much agreed with Lucia that this is no way to live -- they don't even have a place to sleep unless they scam their way into someone's room! In Season 1, the non-rich people were all hotel staff and there was some obvious inequities on display but at least all of the staff in Season 1 could go home at the end of the day and sleep in their own beds. I want Lucia to get her store and Mia to find a job singing somewhere. But White Lotus isn't exactly a "happy ending" show so probably they will wind up dead in the water. |
The other non rich person on season 1 was the daughters friend who was vacationing with the family, and who ended up screwing over the hotel staff member she was hooking up with. |
Agree. Also, if you look at previous photos of her, it's pretty clear that she gained weight for this role. Maybe put on an extra 15-20 pounds? |
I definitely think Lucia is angling for a trip to LA so I can see it. And it's not going to be hard to gt Albie to have feelings for her. My thought on Dominic is that he's going to think he's warning/helping Albie and will use it as an example of him "changing" even though he hasn't really done anything to change. Either way, I think it definitely comes out. I |
I thought it was the girls at first but Lucia’s line about how all whores end up punished makes it almost too obvious now. |
| Maybe Dominic kills Lucia to shut her up? |
We have zero evidence that Dominic is even capable of the level of emotion or violence to murder someone. He's not a great guy and obviously has his demons, but temperamentally he's very low key and never gets angry. One of the reasons the murder in Season 1 worked is that even though it was an accident, it was also fully in keeping with the relationship between Armand and Shane up to that point. It made sense that Armand broke into Shane's room to defacate in his suitcase, because Armand was a very petty character with an axe to grind. And while Shane stabs Armand accidentally, it is totally believable that he would grab the knife and go sneaking around the suite looking for the intruder, instead of calling security. I think if the show had Dom kill Lucia to keep her silent, it would be a dark turn in a direction the show avoids. It's not really about people being evil on purpose. It's about people being kind of evil as a matter of course, because that's how the world is set up and because it's expedient to them in the moment. It's hard to see how Dom murdering Lucia fits into that. I think if the bodies in the water were murdered, it's got to be by a character who seems capable of it (my money is on Cameron, Harper, or Valentina, all of whom I think have some base level rage that could be drawn out of them) or by a fringe character or someone we haven't met. And since we see Valentina in the first scene and she seems surprised to hear about the bodies, it's probably not her. I also think it's likely the bodies are not the result of a murder, but an overdose (once again, lots of drugs floating around this season) or an accident on the cliffs. |
The bodies in the water seemed to be foreshadowed in the story that Tanya’s new gay friend was telling her about the house on the cliff, and the old lady who owned it who was found dead floating in the rocks after she declined to sell it to aggressive local “investors” aka the mob. No idea how it all connects yet because we don’t have enough info and we are still meeting new characters. |
Agree! Dominic might even blackmail Albie into advocating to his wife for him. |
Uh, Dom's wife is going to be much more upset that her husband slept with a prostitute than that her son did. Albie has the leverage here, if he wants it, not the other way around. But I think Lucia is the one who is best positioned to use this knowledge to her benefit. |
Agree this was intended to make you think about the bodies, but I also think that almost any reference like this could be a red herring at this point because there have been a ton of things that could foreshadow a particular character dying or being involved in a death: - Tanya's tarot card reading - Daphne saying she loves Dateline shows where the wife kills the husband - Cameron saying that incompetence makes him "homicidal" when the airline loses his luggage, and also Daphne talking about how Cameron "snaps" - The incident with the piano player and the drugs could foreshadow someone dying via overdose or taking the wrong drugs - Tanya saying the hotel has a beautiful view from the clifftop balconies and then immediately wondering if anyone has ever jumped from there. - The scene at The Godfather tourist trap thing when Portia comments on how tasteless it is to have the mock up of the woman in the care where the character gets blown up in the movie I think there are others. The characters frequently mention death and murder and I think it's all intentional and most will be red herrings. But some won't be! |
