Depp was a victim of narcissistic abuse in childhood. Like many many adults who endured traumatic parenting, he’s programmed to respond to the kind of love bombing narcissists engage in, which is pretty much what he described in his early relationship with Heard. The fact that she verbally, emotionally and physically abused him is not in dispute - she’s on tape admitting to it and there are many witnesses. She is very clearly a narcissist and it exhibits itself in her relationships with others, including her sister, so it’s not because Depp brought it out in her. Depp obviously had substance use disorder issues predating his relationship with Heard but certainly exacerbated by her narcissistic abuse of him which would have triggered a lot of pain from his childhood. Many adults self medicate the pain of ptsd and cptsd. I’m sure she didn’t like his substance abuse and its effects on his ability to fawn over her sufficiently, but she is not a victim of domestic violence. There was mutual physical combat at times but clearly Heard was the aggressor which squares with the fact that there is no prior history of Depp being called a domestic abuser by any other partner. Classic abusers start very early, in teen relationships. They don’t start suddenly in middle age.
People grousing about this case need to let it go - he is as entitled to use the civil court system as any one of us, the case met the threshold for merit to be heard and this is Depp’s day in court. If he is willing to bare all the ugly details to have his chance to prove he wasn’t the primary aggressor that’s his business. Frankly as a former prosecutor who handled hundreds of DV criminal cases, I think it’s valuable that Depp is giving Americans an opportunity to discuss violence against men which does happen much more often than acknowledged. Conversations about DV are always fraught but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be having them. Pretty much all the violence in the world has its roots in the home - Putin, Hussein, Stalin, Hitler and I’m sure many other awful mass killers over history were abused children. Many in the general criminal population are formerly abused children. Child abuse trauma is at the root of many serious adult health issues. Child abuse happens almost exclusively in marriages or partnerships that are themselves abusive. We can never talk enough about domestic violence, because peace on earth will never be achieved until peace is the state of every home. |
| He was texting his assistants to score drugs ... but no your honor, they were for Amber? yeah sure |
His dad left him so to me was as much at fault as his mom. She had to work two jobs to support the family. What Depp is doing to his mother is to me the worst thing being shown off in court. He plays with her reputation for his own benefit. It’s gross. He’s been with four women, none of them successful. He’s an addict. He and his dad are what are called vulnerable narcissists. Narcissists all around. |
| Was the argument in Australia when he is drunk and loses part of his finger before or after he detoxes? I assume it's before. I think it's pretty abusive to write on the walls in blood and paint to your partner, ugh. |
| Can anyone tell me why he didn't just marry the mother of his children? None of his life makes sense. |
He left because France wanted him to pay taxes and he didn’t want to. |
| The question on the case is the length. Six weeks is extreme over an article. What are they going to discuss for six weeks? Is there as much data on his career trajectory because of this article? |
Apparently she didn't want to.https://www.hellomagazine.com/celebrities/2014012016598/johnny-depp-engaged-amber-heard-why-he-never-married-vanessa-paradis/ |
It doesn't say that. It says that things were rocky. So basically they weren't getting along and there were problems. Not surprised. |
| they are the human equivalent of vinegar and baking soda. Make them go away. |

Good analogy |
| The thing that is painfully clear from all this is he is an enormous addict and it’s terribly sad. |
| I wish they could be awarded contemptuous damages, one buck each. No way he wins this. |
