Apparently she didn't want to.https://www.hellomagazine.com/celebrities/2014012016598/johnny-depp-engaged-amber-heard-why-he-never-married-vanessa-paradis/

It doesn't say that. It says that things were rocky. So basically they weren't getting along and there were problems. Not surprised.
"If Vanessa wanted to get hitched, why not," he said. "But the thing is, I'd be so scared of ruining her last name! She's got such a good last name." -read the second paragraph

They used to teach that weird half British accent to actors (katherine Hepburn, Cary grant, jimmy Stewart all had variations of it). Also fits with the story of a kid running from their past and trying to reinvent themselves as someone more interesting (which was also Cary grant, although he went for cool/debonair rather than rock star emo).

Mid-Atlantic

I’m watching Hollywood right now and they just got to the scene discussing Mid-Atlantic

She's French. It's much more common for non-religious couples to be together long-term, have kids, and not marry there. There aren't the marriage incentives we have in the US nor the social pressure/stigma to marry or not.

Nothing about Amber comes across as nurturing and caring. She's a tough cookie.

They could get married she could have kept her own name like so many other women already do. It's a fake answer and was avoiding the question. Later it said they split up because of marital problems.

She has no kids. Why would she need to be nurturing and caring? They already have a mother.

And apparently she tried to help Johnny detox. That would be caring.

She has a baby. Just turned 1. The father is not known, she may have used a sperm donor.

I mean, but not especially helpful if she continuing drinking and using herself.

But I agree, there’s NO way he wins this. He is an absolute mess. That video was NOT GOOD. Did he just stop maturing at age 16? Good lord.

The fact that he insists with a straight face that he has a no problems with alcohol is just flat out pathetic. He isn’t remotely credible trying to insist that his use of alcohol and drugs is in any way normal. Normal for a junkie, maybe.

his alcohol and drug use is not what’s on trial here. there’s no evidence of dv against her.

+1. You have to remember the claims alleged. The defense is trying to distract the jury from his claims, I guess. It can be relevant to the extent the defense can argue that he was too drunk/high to remember the DV or not in control of his actions.

Does anyone know the judge? I'm impressed by her rulings on objections and general courtroom decorum / management.

LOL I have watched the entirety of his testimony and he’s been contradictory as hell. It’s no longer clear at all that anything he said was the truth. What is clear is he is MASSIVELY in denial about his addictions and quite possibly other things as well.

Incidentally, what the trial is about is whether she defamed him in a Washington Post op-ed. And it’s become clear that he was on the chopping block at DIsney before it was even published. His entire industry reputation is absolutely tied up in his alcohol and drugs so it is indeed massively relevant if they can show he was on the outs independently of one piece where he’s not even named.

If he doesn’t grow up he’ll be dead in 5-10 years. Then none of this will matter anyway.

I have several lawyer friends that have been in front of her. All have the utmost respect for her and said she’s incredibly fair.
