Which means the Bible. Got it. |

Where has Gender Queer been in an elementary school library? Or even middle schools? |
No one is reading the Bible in public schools any more. But not a problem for me if not on the shelves. |
Sure. But we should ban it anyway, just in case. |
I didnt propose that, but if we have to remove sex ed to stop erotica from being put in school libraries, Im ok with it. Your stance not mine. |
I assume it wouldn't be read very much, but I would not be surprised for one to be around since so much literature and history makes reference to it. Then again, older literature and history is passé. |
If it were, that would be a problem right? |
Definitely |
Okay, here is discussion of the book in a grade 6-12 school library. https://www.courier-journal.com/story/news/education/2022/07/28/gender-queer-book-faces-parent-challenge-in-jcps/65384393007/ |
Same problem as any book that is not written for that age group. Including those with graphic descriptions about the Holocaust, for example. Or books with images of lynching or the Rape of Nanking. Medical books with graphic images of affliction, surgery, etc. Not age appropriate either. I trust librarians to follow the recommendations that professionals make (and to use their own professional judgment) about age appropriate literature. Definitely don't want other parents making those decisions. |
Wait. Grades 9-12 are high school. Are you saying a school that has grades 6-12 should only have books in their library that are appropriate for grades 6-8? Is that what you are suggesting? That high schoolers in such a situation should still be stuck reading middle-school level books??? WTH. When my kids were younger, they could only check out books that were in their age categories. Pretty sure this is typical. It's an easy remedy. |
If anything in this thread was intended to convince people that book banners are not rabidly anti-LGBTQ+, it has failed. |
I don’t know why you say that. Pictures of heterosexual sex acts would receive the same response. |
