I don't know if she is a comedian ........ but she totally miscalculated the leverage she had in influencing the Senate trial. I guess one can say that her refusal to send the articles of impeachment to the Senate did make her action to be clownish.

She wasn't trying to influence it, she wanted to know the rules. She has found out that the GOP is going to whitewash this; and now the American public knows it too.

She knows nothing more about the rules than when she started her little "strategic play."
She caved. She didn't anticipate Democratic Senators questioning her motives.

Executive privilege.

Here, read about it. And, it is the reason the House's obstruction of Congress charge is such a joke.

Executive privilege is the right of the president of the United States and other members of the executive branch to maintain confidential communications under certain circumstances within the executive branch and to resist some subpoenas and other oversight by the legislative and judicial branches of government in pursuit of particular information or personnel relating to those confidential communications. The right comes into effect when revealing information would impair governmental functions. Neither executive privilege nor the oversight power of Congress is explicitly mentioned in the United States Constitution.[1] However, the Supreme Court of the United States has ruled that executive privilege and congressional oversight each are a consequence of the doctrine of the separation of powers, derived from the supremacy of each branch in its own area of Constitutional activity.[2]

The Supreme Court confirmed the legitimacy of this doctrine in United States v. Nixon in the context of a subpoena emanating from the judiciary, instead of emanating from Congress.[3] The Court held that there is a qualified privilege, which once invoked, creates a presumption of privilege, and the party seeking the documents must then make a "sufficient showing" that the "presidential material" is "essential to the justice of the case". Chief Justice Warren Burger further stated that executive privilege would most effectively apply when the oversight of the executive would impair that branch's national security concerns.[3] Regarding requests from Congress (instead of from the courts) for executive branch information, as of a 2014 study by the Congressional Research Service,[4] only two federal court cases had addressed the merits of executive privilege in such a context, and neither of those cases reached the Supreme Court.[5]

You are delusional if you think that most Americans even care about esoteric rules. She wanted to know the rules and she was rightly told to bug off. She caved when even Democratic senators said enough was enough and that the trial needed to get under way. Besides, McConnell was ready to change the rules to get the trial underway without receiving the articles from the House.

Let us not pretend that there is any impartiality in this process: not a single Republican voted for impeachment and only two Democrats who were vulnerable voted against. In the Senate trial, you can be sure that almost all Republicans will vote to acquit and just about all the Democrats will vote to convict. This is a political and wholly partisan exercise. The only senators who express even a pretense of trying to be objective are those who are vulnerable whether it is Collins on the Republican side and Jones and Manchin on the Democratic side.

Americans of all political persuasions know full well that it is a partisan process.

The partisan problem we have in this country is the GOP's refusal to accept reality and facts, their willingness to repeat lies and conspiracy theories if they think it will preserve their precious power. All the GOP members of the house repeating the same lies over and over was so tiresome and appalling. The fact that they prop up this charlatan POTUS is damning.

You know - replace GOP with Democrat and you have that right.

As I read your rant, the past 3 years of the whole Russia collusion hoax came to mind.

I have edited your post below. Think "Russia collusion hoax" as you read it:

DP. Oh, please If Trump is so innocent, he'd be working overtime to cooperate with investigators and Congress. Instead, all he has done is obstruct, obstruct, obstruct. And he gets away with it because of the privileges of his position and the right wing echo chamber.

They aren't citing executive privilege, but rather "absolute immunity" - something that doesn't exist in law or practice.

^^^ Hasn't read the Mueller report if you still think Russia was a hoax. Try reading it, including the footnotes, and then read the Flynn and Stone case documents.

Russia was real, enabled by Obama since 2014 at least.

That's what Mueller found.

Oh, and zero evidence supporting crazy collusion theories.

What Mueller found: "If we had had confidence that the President clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so."

Not "zero" evidence, just not enough for a criminal prosecution. Perhaps if thee hadn't been so much obstruction, lying and pleading the Fifth, as Mueller noted, there would have been enough evidence.

Again, if this is your mantra, then you haven't read the report or the other legal cases where people have been convicted or plead guilty.

Give it up: Mueller ruled out conspiracy/conclusion by the Trump campaign. Frankly I was not surprised because they were too incompetent and disjointed to have contrived a conspiracy with Russia.

Focus on winning the 2020 election instead of beating a dead horse. What do the Democrats offer the millions of voters who supported Obama and left the Democratic party to vote for Trump? Now that is the name of the game as opposed to this blather about conspiracy and impeachment. What is the Democratic program for sustaining this economy and promoting additional growth?

And, btw, Trump will be exonerated by the Senate ........ you can take that to the bank!

+2. As soon as I hear “Russian hoax”, I immediately discredit the speaker as someone that parrots talking points cut up into baby bites and fed to them . It’s not an informed opinion for discussions like this. go sit at the kiddie table. There are many cases of guilt for a crime, without prosecution, solely because of loopholes or snafus that various litigators charter in judicial proceedings For their clients.

And again - knowing that the reports, knowing the Oval Office is saying do not respond to these subpoenas - I mean, come on. If you’re enforcing the highest land of the law, the most Supreme Court, and executing its power as a president, why would you not participate willingly if you are innocent? And why haven’t you defended yourself with statements? not attacks — statements. This is all alarming and a huge red flag.

There are a lot of guilty criminals walking around free, and a lot of innocent people wrongfully charged and persecuted. shouldn’t be that way, and rather than improve the judicial system, this president is manipulating it and all other supporting institutions. While he certainly isn’t the first President (or politician) to do that, he is the first president to do it at the expense of America’s security, and many other allies and countries.

Someone please tell me when Russia all of a sudden became cool to be buddy buddy with. Are we cool with North Korea too? What about Iran? They’re no different in terms of our history than they were during any other president’s term, and doubt they’ll change under future presidents too.

Answer: a candidate that is not Trump.

If there were different republicans on the ticket, i would be more concerned. But it’s Trump vs Someome else. I’ll take my chances with Someone Else. Whoever that is.

The Senate cannot exonerate the President. The can not remove him, but he will always be impeached.
