If that was the goal, a two week delay is neither here nor there. As a pp said, the House could have tried to force the testimony of those who refused to appear. They chose instead to expedite the impeachment and they know that their case is so weak that without additional corroborating testimony, there is no basis to remove a president. The most ludicrous part of the delay was that in one breath Pelosi argued that it was vital to impeach Trump without delay because he was a clear and present danger to the US and its system of government. And then she proceeds to delay the trial. The whole impeachment charade is a joke. The most ludicrous was the obstruction of Congress because Trump would not allow testimony ...... and the obvious avenue was the courts but they chose not to seek to use it. The implication is that if Congress asks for it then Trump should comply. Impeachment is just not a winning issue for the Democrats especially given that the next election is 10 months away. if the voters don't like Trump then vote him out ..... but the Democrats know full well that Trump's reelection is very likely given that we have a great economy and consumer confidence is high.......... and the Democrats don't have anyone to nominate against him who has a decent chance of winning middle America - and without winning middle America, Trump will be reelected. |
She only delayed because McConnell isn't willing to do his job. If he were willing to hold a fair trial then she would have sent it right over. But he chooses to neglect his duty to the US and to put Trump above the law. Let's make that clear to everyone. |
That's not her job. She's in the house, not the Senate. Grand jury members do NOT have contact with jurors.....for good reason. She needs to FO and butt out. Literally. She looks like she's trying to overthrow a government. |
If you think Trump is innocent, why are you so angry? Sorry that Pelosi, a woman, is not placing “nice.” Go cry to Mitch. |
| Pelosi is a great comedian. |
| If Trump is so innocent, why is he threatening to block Bolton's testimony? |
I don't know if she is a comedian ........ but she totally miscalculated the leverage she had in influencing the Senate trial. I guess one can say that her refusal to send the articles of impeachment to the Senate did make her action to be clownish. |
And jurors should not have contact with or coordinate with the accused. |
She wasn't trying to influence it, she wanted to know the rules. She has found out that the GOP is going to whitewash this; and now the American public knows it too. |
+1 She successfully was able to have McConnell admit that he will protect Trump at all costs and allow him to operate above the law. |
She has no need to know the rules. It's none of her business. The Senate will act according to their rules just like the house did. She will not be able to sway the outcome like Dems did in the house. Reminder - Democrats started talking about impeachment April 2016, six months before Trump was even elected. Show me the man and I'll show you the crime. - Lavrentiy Beria, chief of the Soviet Security and Secret Police (NKVD) |
You are delusional if you think that most Americans even care about esoteric rules. She wanted to know the rules and she was rightly told to bug off. She caved when even Democratic senators said enough was enough and that the trial needed to get under way. Besides, McConnell was ready to change the rules to get the trial underway without receiving the articles from the House. Let us not pretend that there is any impartiality in this process: not a single Republican voted for impeachment and only two Democrats who were vulnerable voted against. In the Senate trial, you can be sure that almost all Republicans will vote to acquit and just about all the Democrats will vote to convict. This is a political and wholly partisan exercise. The only senators who express even a pretense of trying to be objective are those who are vulnerable whether it is Collins on the Republican side and Jones and Manchin on the Democratic side. Americans of all political persuasions know full well that it is a partisan process. |

Pelosi is pretty much captive to the likes of AOC and other progressives who are not willing to kow-tow to her. It's a whole new world for the Democrats with the young progressives who will not play ball with the leadership.
Pelosi who has been a sort of Queen Bee is now having to deal with the likes of AOC who will not take her attempts to force her will on them. Out with the old and in with the new, like they say. |
It's quite funny when clowns take themself so seriously
