Violation---is the conversation which started discussing hiring Overton then about how 10+ kids will be transferring from ither schools and some pretending to be homeless?

Reading this, I took it like Overton was truly sought after, ok fine, I believe they already had in their minds just like anywhere else with Overton coming in “some” kids would follow, and in my head the mention of 10 starters comment was basically a subtle shot at the players already there not being good enough and that with new coach comes better players.

This doesn't happen, actually. Kids don't jump from public HS to public HS following "their" coach around.

No one is lying. My kid's large FCPS HS got a new head football coach this year and no kids "followed him". "Better players" do not come with new coaches at public high schools, except apparently in shady places like PWC.

I would like to say I have been proven wrong multiple times through this soap opera. But I will offer some “should have’s and should happen’s”

1. Hayfield should have accepted the 2-yr ban and not played. I think if they’d done that, we aren’t at these text messages and the bigger circus we now have

2. Fritts should have resigned completely, now if he resigns from fcps (reason: hayfield football recruiting scandal). He can’t walk back on it.

3. Fritts should be fired (but they may just be like so you wanna change your HR-2 to resign right?)

4. Prinicipal Thompson should resign from fcps. No gatehouse reassignment. The texts make it clear that he wanted it to happen and knew etc.

5. Overton steps down and resigns and leaves fcps on all positions (coach and head of security). Same with his staff and anyone hired by county to coach and work in county.

6. Football team should honestly just forfeit tomorrow’s game and the season but I don’t think they will.

7. Before someone has even internet legal opinion, I believe we need a labor lawyer here. Reid should resign or possibly be fired for her complicity (but can she be fired for cause here?). Which is why someone with actual labor law should chime in.

8. School board well if you don’t like those 7 folks, probably just going to see them voted out at the next election.

9. I mean if I’m totally understanding everything. We’re no longer talking just about violating vhsl rules. We’re talking about potentially breaking federal laws, we’re at an entirely new animal there.

He didn’t resign right just a leave of absence? I’m pretty sure HR can fire him for cause at this point. He would’ve submitted at HR-2 that said LOA for family reasons but now there’s clear evidence that he did something wrong. FCPS HR has gotten folks for less. Yes generally most HRs will try to let folks walk away with some dignity but from those texts, they can easily use those to fire for cause I’m quite sure

Footbal recruits don't pay tuition at DeMatha, Ireton, St John College etc. They were on free rides.

Yep. I disagree with her politics but she is a great journalist. She's like a dog with a bone.

She’s diligent and uncovers stuff that others wouldn’t look for or find. She isn’t always accurate - for example, she suggested the Herndon FB coach recently resigned over FCPS’s handling of the Hayfield situation and he completely disavowed her claim.

The Herndon coach was recruiting. I know that for a fact.

Exactly - my kid went to preschool with most of those players. They've lived there their whole lives.

My kids have been knowing them since preschool as well and there are some kids who haven’t lived in the zone that long.

I know for a fact the Herndon football coach was recruiting and trying to sway a kid with private school opportunities, but lived in the zone into attending Herndon.

They do it for basketball too, as there is a sophomore playing for Herndon whose home address is zoned for a different school. He was persuaded by the basketball coach to attend Herndon.

I'm not sure this is the type of "recruiting" that violates the rules. The student was already slated to attend Herndon as he lived in the Herndon district. The coach seemed to be simply asking him to stay to and play there as opposed to attend the private school. In fact, it really isn't recruiting. The kid was going there anyway if he didn't decide to attend a private high school.

Recruiting is recruiting, he wasn’t going anyway, and probably won’t be back next year.

Nice try to confuse the issue. Everyone here knows the majority of the transfers came from Freedom HS, not private. There was one player who came from Dematha. He could be living anywhere, but would assume MD or DC.

VHSL broke down who transferred from where: there were Freedom kids, 6 from private schools and I believe 6-ish rising freshman who weren't zoned for Hayfield.

Few WCAC football football players get totally free rides and I would be shocked if Ireton is giving out much aid at all for kids to play football there. I write this as a former WCAC coach.

They could be hesitant to fire him because he could bring the whole administration down. He leaves for two years, gets transferred to another school and FCPS hopes everyone forgets.

They fire him, and he rats on everyone involved; and there is modt likely a lot more (and juicier) texts from on ‘ole Monty’s phone.
