Cheating Scandal Triggering TJ Change

In a nutshell, one prep company prepped 28% of this years freshman. That’s 133 kids. It’s insane given how competing the prep company market is in NVa. Two years ago, they got 51 kids in and last year it was around 80. The company has been around for YEARS, so such a massive increase raises eyebrows. The company (foolishly) posted the lists of first and last names TJ admits to their FB page each year, so it’s easy to verify.

THEN, current TJ students started posting online on various social media that the company HAD A COPY of the test ahead of time. This test is supposed to be “unpreppable” but the company got students to report back what the questions were after the test. Then they used that to help the students taking the test on the accommodations day, summer round admissions and of course for the next years class. Apparently FCPS and the owners of the TJ admissions test have been watching the company for a while, so this was a good opportunity to do something. This prep company is making millions off of gaming the TJ admissions process.

Added on top of that the this prep company virtually ONLY preps students of one specific background. Added to that almost no Hispanic or black students were admitted and girls were sorely underrepresented as well. It just looks disgusting and simply cannot continue.

Our very own Varsity Blues-type scandal for FCPS. Awesome, thanks cheaters for creating a problem during a time when there are already plenty of problems.

It's crazy that this kind of thing went on for so long but glad the county put an end to it by reforming admissions to TJ.

There have always been very few natural genius level TJ students. It's rare in the population so when you meet one, you know.

But did they actually have a copy of the test itself, or just a copy of a similar test? Because I was able to get practice copies of a similar test (the TJ test was based on a common standardized test that publishes practice books). TJ re-named the test so that it wouldn't be obvious what it was, but it only took a little research to figure it out. So it's nonsense that it was un-preppable.

Students claimed that many of the questions were from the actual test because they'd been building a question bank by debriefing students over several years.

I didn’t bump it but plenty of people are acting as if there wasn’t an issue with the Q test and a test bank, specifically a test bank at Curie, which skewed the results of the test.

I'm glad it was bumped to help put the gaslighting in perspective. Everyone knows this went on despite the rabid denials of the C4TJ crowd.

This thread just reveals that the same unfounded claim has been repeated since the beginning.

Pretty funny actually. Thanks for proving that there has never been any proof of cheating… even since the beginning.

+1. The alleged “cheating” never came up at any Board meeting or in either the state or federal lawsuits. It is completely fake news perpetuated by the wokes to get away from a race-neutral merit based system where Asians dominate. Rather than rise to the challenge they work to lower the bar and change the metrics to reduce the number of Asians.

It was covered by multiple news sources listed above and dozens of posters first--hand testimony. Your gaslighting isn't working.

By definition, it is impossible for any race to "dominate" a race-neutral system of any kind.

Now, it is absolutely possible for Asians to dominate a race-blind system that relies on a metric (standardized testing) that has been historically prioritized by Asian families in their pursuit of academic prestige... but if the demographic breakdown of the selected population differs significantly from the demographic breakdown of the applicants, you don't have a "race-neutral" process.

TJ students explained how it all went down. Do you think a bunch of them are lying?

Link to a story or account of the cheating. No one thinks that kids are lying. We all think you're the one lying, since you keep asserting that things happened without providing any proof. Yeah, I know you'll just insist that there are numerous links in the thread. Or you'll post something that proves that rich kids are doing test prep or something. You claim there's proof. Post it right here and now. Indicate exactly where they specifically talk about cheating.

Dozens of posters have discussed it here ad nauseam over the past few years. Although there are a few deniers with an agenda, there is no doubt that this went on.

Hearsay on an anonymous message board is not proof. I have no agenda, and I'm not necessarily a denier. I just want an article from a reputable source. If you are incapable of providing that, it suggests that whatever cheating scandal didn't happen. I mean, how could there be some huge scandal without a single reputable news agency reporting the situation?
